Moana 2 has finally landed a Disney+ release date following its huge cinema run.
A highly anticipated follow-up to the beloved 2016 movie made its debut on the cinema screens last year, eventually earning more than $1 billion during its run.
The movie is set to premiere on Disney+’s streaming platform on March 12th.
In case you’re eager and can’t hold on, you have the option to purchase or rent Moana 2 online right away through platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, or the Microsoft Store.
It’s clear that the original “Moana” on Disney+ has been exceptionally successful. We can anticipate that its sequel is likely to garner massive viewings during the upcoming months as well.
Initially, the follow-up was intended to be a television show, but it ended up becoming a movie instead. This change turned out to be successful for Disney, given its massive box office earnings.
Apart from ranking as the third highest-earning film of 2024, surpassed only by Disney’s Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, it also set a new record for the largest opening on Thanksgiving in the United States.
Next year, the Moana series will carry on with a live-action adaptation of its initial film. In this new version, Dwayne Johnson is set to return as the character Maui, and Catherine Laga’aia will take on the lead role of Moana herself.
In December, Johnson addressed photos from the movie shoot that had been leaked, revealing he wore a body suit to help create his character’s muscular appearance.
He shared with Extra TV, “This suit required a lot of time to be worn.” He continued, “I’m glad you remarked, ‘You’ve increased in size,’ as it suggests you didn’t notice before.
Each day for a few hours, that’s when the transformation happens, and we put on our costumes. We filmed outside, but when those images emerged, my first thought was, “oh no, we’ve been found,” because we were erecting barriers to keep paparazzi away. However, they managed to get into boats and started taking photos. Still, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m really looking forward to it. The movie is scheduled for release in 2026.
On March 12, Moana 2 will premiere on Disney+. Alternatively, you can purchase or rent it from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and other platforms in the UK.
