- MLBB esports has a cultural influence, global growth, and unmatched competitive momentum.
- We explore whether MLBB esports is becoming the Super Bowl of esports.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is holding its 7th annual M Series event with the M7 World Championship. Over the years, this tournament has created many memorable moments and has significantly impacted the entire esports world, not just mobile gaming. This has led to discussions about whether the M7 Championship is now the premier, most important event – the ‘Super Bowl’ – of mobile esports.
Here’s an update on the M7 Championship: it started on January 3rd, 2026, and will run until the 25th. MOONTON is celebrating the tournament with several exciting events, including a series of collectible cards and an M7 Pass event. MOONTON Games is aiming to make this championship the biggest one yet.
From roadmap to reality, a year full of commitment
MOONTON has revealed its esports plans for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) and Mobile Legends: Collision of Gods (MCGG) for 2025. Organizing so many tournaments – from local events to international championships – is a huge undertaking. It’s also challenging to meet player expectations, adapt to new trends, manage player transfers, and keep the games fresh and engaging. It’s a lot of work, but MOONTON understands the responsibility that comes with leading these popular esports.
As a fan, I’m really impressed – they didn’t just meet expectations, they exceeded them! For a long time, people saw MOONTON as mainly focused on the Southeast Asian mobile gaming scene, but they’ve clearly grown beyond that.

All the hard work and dedication finally resulted in a huge success for the game, attracting the largest esports audience ever recorded. Although some popular national leagues still draw large crowds, the numbers from MSC 2025 clearly demonstrate the game’s growing popularity around the world.
The journey of mobile esports is about a couple of games
Mobile esports is a relatively new phenomenon, but it’s rapidly become a popular and significant part of the gaming world, attracting its own dedicated fans and creating a distinct market. Games like PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang were key in launching its initial growth.
Just ten years ago, competitive mobile gaming was relatively unknown. The mobile gaming scene was mostly filled with simple, enjoyable games like Angry Birds and Candy Crush. However, as phones became more powerful, they started to handle games that were once only possible on consoles or PCs, opening up a whole new world of mobile gaming possibilities.
Games such as PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends really changed how people thought about mobile gaming, paving the way for many other successful titles and ultimately creating a thriving mobile gaming industry. From there, its growth has been remarkable.
M7 is creating a gap in the esports viewership race
Following the initial launch of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, the game’s creators decided to broaden its reach. They expanded beyond their original markets, bringing a major tournament to the Middle East. The event was a huge success, attracting a growing number of organizations to participate.
The game’s increasing popularity made it the most-watched mobile esport, and also put it among the top two most-viewed games overall. You can find more details in our 2025 esports year in review.

Even before the next world championship, the game has already ranked among the top five most-watched esports events out of ten. It’s remarkable that no other mobile game has come close to reaching this level! Hopefully, other mobile esports will catch up soon, which would be great for the industry as a whole.
M7 World Championship is binding cultures in the same thread
What started as a local event has grown into a worldwide phenomenon. Featuring top teams from regions like Southeast Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, and Eastern Europe, M7 is now much more than just an international competition – it’s a vibrant mix of cultures. That’s why comparing it to the Super Bowl makes sense. It’s no longer just about the games themselves; it’s about the feelings we share, the memorable cultural experiences, and celebrating together as a community.
The Super Bowl is a massive event in America, attracting over 100 million viewers. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is experiencing similar popularity, with hundreds of millions of hours watched – thanks to its availability on mobile devices and strong fan bases in specific regions.
M7 has grown beyond just a competition; it’s now a large-scale entertainment event. Everything – from big in-person crowds to online streams, watch parties, and social media – all comes together to create one huge shared experience.

MLBB M7 opening ceremony represented Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage
This year’s M7 World Championship is being held in Indonesia. MOONTON created a stunning opening ceremony that combined the excitement of MLBB Esports with Indonesia’s vibrant culture. According to Tiger Xu, Global Head of MLBB Esports at MOONTON Games, the ceremony will showcase how MLBB Esports has become a key part of the Indonesian sports scene.
MPL Indonesia is incredibly popular, consistently attracting over 100 million hours of viewership per season. This growing success means the opening ceremony isn’t just an event for fans – it’s a signal to Indonesia and the world that Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Esports has become a major national sport.

The M7 World Championship kicked off on January 9th with a spectacular opening ceremony in Jakarta, turning the city into a vibrant hub for esports. The event beautifully combined Indonesian heritage with modern entertainment, showcasing 60 dancers in traditional costumes from various parts of the country.
The opening ceremony beautifully incorporated stories from Indonesia’s vibrant mythology. It also brought together esports players, officials, and many others, creating a powerful and unified representation of the nation.
Other forms of celebrations are making the M7 the ultimate esports event for mobile
Okay, so they’re really going all out with this event! They’re adding something called the M7 Carnival, which sounds like it’s going to be a huge gathering for gamers, music fans, and anyone into pop culture. Basically, from January 23rd to 25th, the city’s going to be buzzing with watch parties, live shows, and even chances to meet some of the big names – it’s going to be awesome!

The game is also launching the M7 Talent Show, a new event designed to showcase the creativity of players in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang community. Fans can participate by sharing their talents in areas like music, dance, and cosplay.
Honestly, when you look at everything – the awesome culture around it, how it’s constantly growing, how huge it is worldwide, and just how amazing the events are – it’s clear that Mobile Legends is in a league of its own. People call it the Super Bowl of esports, and honestly, nothing else even comes close right now. It’s just miles ahead globally, and the rest of the gaming world is still playing catch-up.
