As an ardent Mortal Kombat enthusiast with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the upcoming MK1 Khaos Reigns update is shaping up to be a game-changer for this iconic franchise. With new characters like Ghostface and Conan the Barbarian joining the roster, it’s clear that NetherRealm Studios is keeping the spirit of innovation alive.
This new season in Mortal Kombat 1 brings substantial gameplay changes.
Alongside introducing fresh characters and storyline segments, the MK1 Khaos Reigns update brings significant changes to gameplay. Although the developers are yet to disclose all modifications (at present), they have already hinted at power-ups for Havik and two Kameo fighters: Sub-Zero and Jax. You can find the specifics here.

MK1 Khaos Reigns update: Gameplay changes
During a recent Kombat Kast live stream, some aspects of the MK1 Khaos Reigns update were unveiled. The developers hinted at further modifications to come in MK1 Khaos Reigns, implying that this is merely a sneak peek into the upcoming MK1 game patch.
The demonstration and explanation are on the video below.
Havik buffs
MK1 Havik gets some improvements.
- His B2 is faster. This buff makes the move a good choice to punish opponents if their attacks have a gap, like F4, 3, 4 of Liu Kang.
- Havik has a new move, a stretchy kick. It pops up if you use the meter on it, so that’s a ground bounce move. It’s useful as a combo starter.
- Another new move is a low launcher. Havik breaks his own knees to get so low. The move is used for MK1 combos.
- J2, 4 has been changed, so more combos are possible with it, as the move doesn’t push Havik back as much as before.
Sub-Zero (Kameo) buffs
- Kameo Sub-Zero gets a parry move: it freezes the main character and then transits the freeze to the opponent on hit. If the opponent delays their hit to avoid the parry, it is possible to throw the ice clone at them.
Jax (Kameo) buffs
- Kameo Jax gets back his classic move. He grabs the opponent’s kameo and punches them. With two hits of armor, Jax can stop the other kameo’s moves and punish
