Mitch Churi breaks down on-air as he confirms he has been sacked by KIIS FM – and co-stars Laura Byrne and Brittany Hockley are left devastated
As a dedicated listener and avid fan of KIIS FM, I was utterly shocked and saddened to hear about Mitch Churi’s sudden departure from the network. Having grown accustomed to his witty humor and infectious energy on The Pick Up drive time show, this news felt like a punch in the gut.
On a Wednesday afternoon, KIIS FM host Mitch Churi emotionally shared with his audience that he had been let go by the station.
During a poignant moment on their morning program, The Pick Up drive time show, one of the hosts, who also happens to be a radio star, shared some deeply sad news with his fellow co-hosts, Laura Byrne and Brittany Hockley, causing him to become visibly emotional.
Last week, I received word from those in charge that they’ve decided my position here won’t be renewed after 2025, and that’s where we stand.
Mitch then revealed he was blindsided by the decision and he wished it had not come to this.
‘I just want to say it wasn’t my decision or my call. I really wanted to stay on the show with you two. I really wanted to stay with KIIS.’
Laura Byrne, age 38, quickly added her support, stating that both Lauras were wholeheartedly behind Mitch and wished him a prosperous future.
Laura expressed, “This isn’t part of our plans for the performance. Regrettably, this choice wasn’t within our power to change. Unfortunately, Britt and I must go on with the show without your presence, and we’re deeply saddened by it.
‘You are not only our co-host, but also one of our best friends,’ Brittany chipped in.
Gladly speaking as your lifestyle guide, I’m thrilled to share that Mitch will have the opportunity to bid a fitting adieu to his audience, as he continues with his broadcast right up to the end of this year.
‘We’ll miss you, Mitch,’ wrote fellow radio stars Amanda Keller and Brendan ‘Jonesy’ Jones.
Apologies for any inconvenience. I understand this might be tough, but remember there’s always a new beginning. One door shutting means another will open – that’s certain for your future. Kylie Gilies and Tristan MacManus expressed their sympathies by saying, ‘I’m sorry to hear.’
On Wednesday, Laura and Brittany were seen standing by Mitch as he left KIIS FM’s North Sydney studios following the surprising announcement.
As the radio hosts visibly displayed their emotions, they hugged Mitch during his departure from the studio, moments after it was announced that he had been let go.

Reports suggest that KIIS FM is facing difficulties this week, with a prominent figure allegedly being dismissed and set to leave by the end of the year, according to The Daily Telegraph’s report on Tuesday.
Since 2019, he has been the host for The Night Show featuring Mitch Churi, and currently shares hosting duties on The Pick Up alongside Laura and Brittany.
According to the report, the decision was based on financial concerns, and Mitch, absent from the air since Thursday, received the unfortunate news on Tuesday.
‘Mitch is shattered and completely blindsided,’ the publication quoted a ‘colleague’ as saying.
