She’s also opened up lately about the stress she experienced in hiding her same-sex relationship as her fame increased.
On ABC’s Australian Story, the artist behind “The Sound of White” disclosed that she had been concealing a romantic involvement with her tour manager, Emma Goodland, during an early stage of her career.
In the past, there was much curiosity about my romantic relationships and my sexual orientation, specifically who I was seeing romantically and their gender, as Missy shared openly.
At that point, I discovered it quite challenging due to two reasons. First, I was yet to fully grasp it. Secondly, I’m generally someone who prefers privacy.

However, when I entered this field, it was shrouded in secrecy and was generally considered inappropriate. The atmosphere was intensely intimidating, and I struggled to express my true self. All I yearned for was a peaceful corner where I could blend anonymously.
In 2004, the artist who ruled the music charts with her song “Scar” sparked rumors about her sexuality for the first time. These whispers gained momentum when she expressed to Rolling Stone magazine in 2005 that everyone possesses a bit of bisexuality within them.
In an interview on Anh’s Brush With Fame in 2021, Missy stated that there was pressure for her to identify as gay, even though she wasn’t confident about her own sexuality at that point in time.
As the rumors swirled around my private life, something deeply intimate and complex that I was struggling to understand myself, I felt compelled to address it back then.
Every reporter was seeking a response from me, each one hoping I would openly acknowledge my sexual orientation as gay.
Missy admitted that the persistent stress caused her to disengage and ultimately step away from the spotlight.
Each time I had an interview, I found myself in defensive mode since they were delving, attempting to make me reveal something unintended. Trying to make me use a pronoun, you understand? I’d respond, “How can I explain the meaning of this song without using ‘she’?
In a sense, that experience left an indelible mark on me. It shaped my demeanor significantly, leading me to adopt a more reserved approach. This tactic, unfortunately, has often hindered my ability to fully express myself due to the fear of exposing my vulnerabilities.
