Missouri approves direct mobile sports betting licenses for DraftKings and Circa Sports

As a passionate enthusiast, I can’t help but share the exciting news that DraftKings and Circa Sports have been granted direct mobile sports betting licenses by Missouri, while FanDuel, unfortunately, missed out on this round. It’s an exhilarating development in the world of sports betting!

In a recent decision, the Missouri Gaming Commission granted direct mobile sports betting licenses for the state to both DraftKings and Circa Sports.

The commission gave its approval for both DraftKings and Circa Sports to initiate operations statewide as soon as Missouri’s sports betting market becomes active. With these licenses, they will have the freedom to function autonomously without needing to partner with a casino or professional sports team.

Matt Kalish, DraftKings North America President, expressed delight over securing one of Missouri’s two direct mobile licenses. This move signifies our ability to bring our top-tier online sportsbook to sports enthusiasts statewide. Missouri is home to ardent fan bases and professional teams, and we’re thrilled about enhancing their sports journey with a dynamic, accountable mobile platform.

It’s been planned that Missouri will start mobile sports betting on December 1, 2025, subject to final regulatory clearance. On this very day, both DraftKings and Circa Sports are expected to introduce their online sportsbook platforms.

Circa Sports stands out due to its tendency to accept substantial bets from experienced gamblers, commonly known as “professionals” or “sharps.” In discussions with Missouri’s regulatory bodies, however, Circa admitted that their operations might lead to lower tax revenue compared to other companies in the state.

FanDuel misses out on Missouri mobile licenses

Once Missouri’s market becomes active, it will be the 29th state where DraftKings offers its services, making it a neighbor to Kansas, where sports betting was made legal in the year 2022.

Despite investing millions in supporting Missouri’s legalization efforts, FanDuel did not receive a license from the Missouri Gaming Commission. However, FanDuel revealed they had obtained market access by partnering with St. Louis CITY SC instead.

Mike Raffensperger, President of FanDuel, expressed enthusiasm about Missouri’s avid sports enthusiasts and their collaboration with St. Louis CITY SC. He is excited to present their top-tier product in Missouri. They anticipate offering support to the team and interacting with the community as they introduce the leading sportsbook in America to fans throughout Missouri.

With that launch, Missouri will become the 25th state where FanDuel offers mobile sports betting.
