Mission: Impossible Surpasses John Wick at the Box Office – What This Means for Action Films!
Impossible movie, titled “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”, has surpassed one of Keanu Reeves’ most cherished action films in terms of earnings at the U.S. box office. This is significant because the previous Mission: Impossible film, “Rogue Nation”, faced underperformance, but this new achievement suggests a promising future.
In seven days since its release, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is outpacing other movies in the competition at the U.S. box office, surpassing one of Keanu Reeves’ well-known action films, “John Wick: Chapter 2,” which had earned $92 million during its entire run in 2017. After only seven days, the eighth installment in the long-running spy series has grossed $95.3 million in the U.S.
Even though Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” presented tough competition and screenings were fewer due to its longer duration and reduced theater availability, “The Final Reckoning” is doing exceptionally well. This success is largely attributed to strong backing from IMAX and other premium large-screen formats. Interestingly, both films have received the same A- rating from viewers, while “John Wick: Chapter 2” continues to receive critical acclaim with a 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the second-best rated film in its franchise’s history.
Overall, the “Mission: Impossible” series is significantly larger in terms of earnings compared to the “John Wick” franchise. Each “Mission: Impossible” film has grossed approximately $189.6 million in the U.S., whereas “John Wick” has managed $123.3 million. However, the lower-budget “John Wick” series, under the direction of Chad Stahelski, has proven to be a formidable competitor among action films. In 2023, “John Wick: Chapter 4” surpassed the domestic box office earnings of “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning,” marking a significant victory for the R-rated franchise whose initial film was produced on a budget under $30 million.
It’s quite intriguing to wonder if “The Final Reckoning” will outperform not only its predecessor but also “John Wick 4”. Currently, it seems poised to surpass $120 million in its second weekend, which strengthens its chances of hitting the $200 million mark domestically as we approach June. Despite Keanu Reeves’ latest and potentially final “Mission: Impossible” film receiving mixed initial reviews, it has been a success in theaters and is aiming to surpass the franchise-leading $220.2 million at the domestic box office held by “Fallout”.
John Wick’s Ascent to Hollywood Heaven
In the current action movie scene, the John Wick series distinguishes itself as a unique creation, drawing audiences in with its intricate underworld lore. Ever since its initial release in 2014, this collection of films has escalated into a worldwide sensation, lauded for revolutionizing action cinema through its “gun-fu” combat styles and plotlines heavily influenced by stunts. Even Tom Cruise, during the promotion of his movie The Final Reckoning, acknowledged the remarkable influence of the John Wick franchise on the genre.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel thrilled about the ever-expanding world of John Wick. The upcoming spin-off, “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina,” and the confirmation of John Wick 5 are just proof that this franchise is not slowing down anytime soon. During an exclusive chat with TopMob, Ana de Armas hinted at her eagerness to join the main series, expressing, “That would be fantastic!” With potential crossovers and fresh narratives on the horizon, John Wick keeps growing while staying true to the chic foundations that won over fans like me.
