Mission: Impossible 8’s first trailer confirms ominous new title
As a long-time fan who has watched every Mission: Impossible movie since the franchise began, I must say that the announcement of Mission: Impossible 8 (or should I say The Final Reckoning) has me positively giddy with excitement! Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt is like an old friend that I haven’t seen in a while, and I can’t wait to catch up with him again.
After completing filming, it’s great news that we can now watch the first trailer for Mission: Impossible 8.
After initial plans to name it “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two”, the title underwent a change due to the less-than-expected box office performance of “Part One”. Upon its release on digital platforms, it was simply titled as “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning”.
The initial sneak peek of the upcoming film officially reveals its name as “Mission: Impossible – A Matter of Last Consequences“.

In the upcoming film, Tom Cruise once again takes on the role of Ethan Hunt. Given that the story continues directly after the suspenseful finale of “Dead Reckoning,” it’s likely we’ll see many characters returning alongside Ethan.
In the upcoming instalment, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg reprise their roles as Luther Stickell and Benji Dunn, Ethan’s fellow IMF team members. Additionally, Hayley Atwell is set to return as Grace, who, following the events of the last film, has become an agent with the IMF.
As a gamer, I’m pumped to hop back into the action with Esai Morales once again embodying the sinister Gabriel, while Vanessa Kirby returns as Alanna Mitsopolis, also known as the White Widow. And get this – Pom Klementieff’s character Paris could potentially be joining forces with Ethan! Can’t wait to see what unfolds!
Additionally, the trailer hinted at the unexpected reappearance of Angela Bassett’s character, Erika Sloane, who was absent in the last film.
For Mission: Impossible 8, new cast members include Hannah Waddingham, Katy O’Brian, and Janet McTeer. Notably, Rolf Saxon returns to his character, William Donloe, from the original Mission: Impossible film.
It seems unlikely that we’ll witness Rebecca Ferguson reprising her role as Ilsa Faust after her demise in “Dead Reckoning”, unless there’s a twist or deception regarding her character’s ending that has yet to be revealed.
It hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but Jeremy Renner has expressed interest in reprising his role as William Brandt in the Mission: Impossible series. He stated that he would be eager to return to the franchise and the character of Brandt at any time.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is released in cinemas on May 23, 2025.
