Since Doctor Who is currently off the air and ended on a suspenseful note, now’s a great time to revisit the beginning! Not the very first episode, but a movie released less than two years after the show originally premiered.
The 1965 film, Dr. Who and the Daleks, was the first Doctor Who adventure filmed in color and widescreen. Interestingly, it presents a different version of the story, starring Peter Cushing (known for Star Wars) as the Doctor instead of William Hartnell.
The show is now available on a new streaming service in the UK, but it’s not on BBC iPlayer, which isn’t surprising since it isn’t considered part of the official storyline.

After showing on Film4 over the weekend, the movie is now streaming on Channel 4. Like most films, it will only be available for a few weeks. The story revolves around The Doctor facing off against the pepperpot-shaped creatures the title suggests, but there are some key differences from the TV show – in this version, our hero isn’t a Time Lord.

Interestingly, he isn’t referred to as The Doctor in this instance, but it’s one of the rare occasions where he’s actually called Dr. Who.
Just so you know, the version Channel 4 uploaded is a remastered copy from 2022, originally scanned and released in 4K.
After the latest season ended, the fate of Doctor Who was uncertain, and fans wondered if Disney would be involved in future episodes. We expected to find out more once the new spin-off, The War Between the Land and Sea, was released.

Last week, the BBC and Disney announced they will no longer be working together. Russell T Davies and Bad Wolf Studios will now produce a Christmas special planned for 2026.
The most recent episode concluded with Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor transforming into… well, Billie Piper’s character. Fans are now wondering: is this the new Doctor, Rose Tyler returning, or a reappearance of the Bad Wolf?
Maybe she’s the alternate movie universe’s Dr Who? That would certainly be a twist.
You can now watch Dr. Who and the Daleks on Channel 4. It’s also available through Studiocanal Presents, or to purchase on 4K or Blu-ray. The main Dr. Who series is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
Okay, gamers, listen up! The latest issue of Living Legends just dropped, and it’s called Ariana & Witches! You can grab it at all good newsagents or order it online for only £8.99. Definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of the series!
