Minecraft Movie 2 Poster Teases Steve’s Terrifying Next Villain (And It’s Perfect)

The first poster for *A Minecraft Movie 2* has been released, confirming the film will come out in 2027. It also hints at a new main character and a frightening villain. The first *Minecraft Movie* was a massive hit this year, becoming a viral sensation—and a bit of a headache for some theater employees. After its release in June, videos spread online showing audiences enthusiastically participating in the movie, cheering, shouting lines like the now-famous “CHICKEN JOCKEY,” and unfortunately, making quite a mess in theaters. Despite the chaos, the movie’s popularity was a huge success for Warner Bros., earning nearly $1 billion around the world.

Following the success of *A Minecraft Movie*, plans for a sequel directed by Jared Hess were quickly put in motion. The first poster for the new film introduced Alex as a key new character alongside the returning protagonist, and hinted that the Ender Dragon will be the next big villain after Malgosha. Since the Ender Dragon is the first and largest boss in *Minecraft*, it makes sense for a movie sequel to focus on reaching The End. The first film, planned for 2025, will already cover the game’s other dimension, The Nether.

What Will Happen in A Minecraft Movie 2?

In a brief scene after the credits of *A Minecraft Movie*, Jack Black’s character, Steve, encountered Alex, who hasn’t been cast yet. This suggests they’ll team up for future stories, and maybe even develop a romantic connection. The movie doesn’t explain how Steve and Alex will return to their world, or what will motivate them to find the Eyes of Ender, locate the Ender Portal, and ultimately battle the Ender Dragon in The End.

Warner Bros. and director Jared Hess will likely try to make the next *Minecraft Movie* just as popular as the first one. This means they’ll focus on creating content that’s easily shareable online, using a similar marketing strategy, and bringing back the beloved characters Garbage Man, Dawn, Henry, and Natalie for more adventures.

It’s worth wondering if the next movie will revisit Jennifer Coolidge’s character, Marlene, and her fiancé Nitwit, played by Matt Berry. Even if the sequel doesn’t include them, we can probably expect another funny, unrelated plotline to be added.
