Milly Alcock will be appearing in the upcoming Supergirl movie as the main character, Kara Zor-El. The first trailer for the film was released today, confirming her role.
Although the trailer didn’t show it, actor David Corenswet will appear as Superman in the movie, according to comments made by Alcock at a preview event for Digital Spy.
The House of the Dragon actress described her first day on Supergirl, saying it was an incredible experience because she worked with Superman himself.

That day was incredibly difficult. It was only two degrees outside, and everything was happening so fast – I wasn’t even in my suit and everyone was speaking Kryptonian, a language I didn’t understand.
Millie Alcock remembered the first time she wore the Supergirl suit for her appearance in this year’s Superman movie. She said that executive producer Chantal Nong Vo saw her and immediately began to cry.

I realized then that I needed to fully commit to this project, not just for my own sake, but for everyone who had worked for years to bring this film to life. It’s important because I believe this character is relatable with all her flaws, and we need heroes who aren’t perfect, especially for young girls and women who will be watching.
During a discussion led by James Gunn, the director of Superman, actress Milly Alcock explained that Supergirl embodies the idea that young women don’t need to be perfect and can still find inner peace, even with their flaws.
She explained that there’s a lot of pressure, particularly on women, to be perfect at everything. She believes the character of Kara is unique and wonderful because she embraces her imperfections instead of trying to hide them.

James Gunn, a co-head of DC Studios, observed that female superhero characters are often portrayed as being flawlessly perfect, unlike their male counterparts. He found this aspect of the story and the script by Ana Nogueira particularly appealing.
He pointed out that while characters like Tony Stark and Star-Lord are known for their flaws, female superheroes often have a different portrayal. He was particularly drawn to seeing a character who, despite being imperfect and struggling, still possessed a genuinely kind heart – that’s what really captivated him.
Director Craig Gillespie explained that Kara is more of a flawed hero than a traditional one, and she actively resists the responsibility that comes with her abilities. She’s trying to avoid the part and simply live her own life.
He explained that she’s unexpectedly pulled into the life of a superhero, and the story focuses on how she copes with it and discovers who she truly is along the way. It’s a really compelling journey.
Supergirl is set for release on 26 June 2026.
