Milly Alcock and Julianne Moore’s Gross Gum Swap in Sirens Revealed!
I recently discovered an excellent addition to the list of Netflix series worth binge-watching – Sirens. This unexpectedly captivating miniseries has grabbed my attention and I highly recommend it if you have a Netflix account. I’m nearly finished with the show, which currently ranks No.1 on their Top 10 TV shows list. One scene that has stayed with me from the very first episode is when they swap gum – it’s quite intriguing! Interestingly enough, I’ve learned some fascinating trivia about this scene.
The show Sirens effectively portrays Milly Alcock’s character, Simone, being excessively familiar with her boss, Michaela, in the early stages of the series. This is particularly noticeable when Michaela, who lives with Simone as her assistant, asks Simone to aid her in sending explicit messages to her husband. However, a scene that struck me was when Michaela requested Simone to remove her gum to enhance her breath’s scent before they entered a function. I initially believed it was just a part of the story, but it turned out that my suspicions were correct. According to Alcock:
The gum scene, that was like my first day with her, and I actually ate her gum.
To put it simply, it wasn’t a scenario I’d ever encounter in real life, but when you’re discussing acting, it’s all about immersing yourself in the role. Now, let me share an interesting perspective from Alcock – it could’ve been more intense if not for the professional manner we handled it. You see, in a movie, passionate kisses are common, and this was just another aspect of our job as actors.
Initially, there seemed to be one piece left, I assumed they’d make use of it, much like the situation where a piece of chewing gum sticks to your teeth as a small string remains.
In addition to exchanging pieces of gum several times during various recordings, this story might be a bit too gritty for those with a fear of germs. The scene is already quite lively, but it could have been even more off-putting if the gum had turned stringy and stuck in someone’s teeth. It’s intriguing that Alcock was confident that this take would make the final cut. In the end, though, it seems like the producers chose to protect our sensibilities by omitting that detail. (Thanks for doing so!)

25-year-old Milly Alcock, a budding talent from Australia, has an unusual tale (or boast): she shared a piece of gum with the Academy Award-winning actress Julianne Moore. This rising star made her mark in Hollywood through the fantasy series “House of the Dragon,” portraying young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. Lately, she completed filming for the “Supergirl” movie and is slated to make her appearance as Kara Zor-El this summer in the upcoming “Superman” film.
Concerning “Sirens”, Alcock delivers an outstanding performance as Simone, and I find myself captivated by her portrayal of the assistant to Moore’s mysterious socialite character, while Devon (portrayed by Meaghan Fahy) creates turbulence in her tranquil life with a visit from the past. The show seems destined to linger in my memory, much like chewing gum stubbornly clinging to teeth.
