Millie Bobby Brown’s “totally different” Enola Holmes 3 confirms runtime ahead of Netflix release

The third Enola Holmes movie’s length has been revealed before it comes out later this year. Millie Bobby Brown will be back playing the main character, the detective Enola Holmes, in this new installment of the popular Netflix series.

The upcoming sequel’s runtime has been announced as 1 hour and 45 minutes, making it the shortest film in the series. The previous two movies each lasted a little over 2 hours.

In the third film, Enola travels to Malta, where her personal aspirations and work come together in a particularly complex and dangerous case – the most challenging she’s ever encountered.

Writer Jack Thorne hinted that the upcoming movie might be a surprising departure from what fans are used to.

I wanted to revisit the story of Enola Holmes and explore a side of 19th-century British society we hadn’t seen before,” he told Radio Times. “I’ve always seen Enola as a unique lens through which to examine that period.

The first movie focused on changes to land ownership and voting rights, the second on the rise of labor unions, and the third explores our country’s colonial past. I’m really enthusiastic about bringing all these different stories together.

In addition to Millie Bobby Brown, the third Enola Holmes movie will also bring back Henry Cavill as her brother Sherlock, Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury, Helena Bonham Carter as their mother Eudoria, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Moriarty, and Himesh Patel as Dr. John Watson.

There’s been a shift in directors: Philip Barantini, known for his work on Adolescence, is now directing instead of Harry Bradbeer.

Thorne noted some changes while working with the new director, someone he’d previously worked with on Adolescence. He also mentioned that the lead actress, Brown, seems to be approaching her role with a different perspective now that she’s a mother.

He explained they were aiming to portray Enola Holmes as an adult, and to show her story through the unique lens of director Harry Bradbeer.

The third Enola Holmes movie is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2026. You can currently watch the first and second films on the streaming service.
