Millie Bobby Brown’s Damsel was an even bigger Netflix hit
As a binge-watching enthusiast with a penchant for all things cinematic, I must say that this year has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! The Netflix Engagement Report for January to June 2024 has unveiled some fascinating insights into the viewing habits of our fellow streamers.
It turns out that more people have been watching Millie Bobby Brown’s action-fantasy film “Damsel” on Netflix this year than we initially realized; it has actually been the most popular Netflix movie thus far in 2022.
Netflix recently unveiled their Engagement Report spanning from January to June 2024, offering comprehensive viewing data across their entire library. While we receive weekly updates regarding the most-viewed titles, it’s important to note that the ranking charts for these popular shows or movies are calculated based on their initial 91 days of release only.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share an exciting piece of news: Within its first 91 days, the captivating series “Damsel” garnered a staggering 138 million views! And here’s the amazing part – it continued to captivate audiences on the streaming service. By the end of June 2024, it had amassed an impressive total of 143.8 million views, with viewers collectively spending a mind-boggling 263.7 million hours immersed in its storyline. Truly a testament to its quality and appeal!
The figure seems to have kept increasing after June, but we’ll only know for sure once the next update is released.
Besides the number one movie, there were three more Netflix originals among the top five most-viewed: “Lift” with 129.4 million views, “Society of the Snow” boasting 103.8 million views, and “Under Paris” garnering 84.7 million views.
It’s noteworthy that among the top five, we find “The Super Mario Bros Movie”, which is notable because it’s not a Netflix original but has been added to Netflix’s library in several countries, including the United States.
In the period between January and June 2024, the popular Nintendo animation garnered approximately 80.3 million views. Given that it was still among the top ten most-viewed weekly by the end of August, it’s clear that its viewership likely increased further.
Family-oriented animations were among the most popular non-Netflix films that garnered the highest viewership during the initial half of the year.
In the top 15 most-viewed animated films, Minions, The Boss Baby, Despicable Me 3, and Shrek have taken the lead, surpassing both Rebel Moon movies in viewership.
You’ll be glad to know that Netflix has shared information about the top-viewed TV series of the year, easily accessible by clicking here.
