As a seasoned gamer who has witnessed the evolution of storytelling in gaming and cinema, I can confidently say that Millie Bobby Brown‘s upcoming performance in “The Electric State” is a promising leap into a new era of immersive narratives.
Millie Bobby Brown will return to Netflix before the fifth season of Stranger Things, appearing in a new science fiction film called The Electric State, which is being directed by the Russo brothers next year.
According to Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel, the upcoming film is set in an alternative 1990s after a conflict between humans and robots. In the tense truce that ensued, the protagonist Michelle, portrayed by Brown, embarks on a journey to locate her lost brother.
At MCM Comic Con’s The Electric State panel on Saturday, October 26, Joe Russo spoke highly of his main actress and her impressive ability to lead the film, when talking to Digital Spy.
We truly love Millie. In my opinion, she’s extraordinary and there’s a definite explanation for why she’s one of the most renowned celebrities globally. There’s an allure about her. Her talent shines brightly, her versatility is remarkable. She has a unique ability to draw you into a story that only a select few can achieve,” he put it simply.

It turned out to be quite fortunate for us as I had the chance to meet her and her family a few years back when they were working on “Stranger Things” season two, since we happened to be filming “Avengers: Endgame” nearby at the time. Our daughters, who were around the same age then, ended up becoming friends.
For quite some time, I’ve been acquainted with this family, and working alongside Millie was an exciting prospect I had been looking forward to. It’s incredibly challenging for someone so young, under the age of 20 at the time, to bear the weight of such a large-scale production every single day without succumbing to pressure or affecting one’s performance. Yet, I believe Millie handled it all with remarkable grace and resilience.
In the movie, she gave a lively, humorous, touching, and even melancholic portrayal that never seemed to trouble her.

In a conversation with Digital Spy, Brown’s fellow actor Stanley Tucci discussed the enigmatic role he plays in “The Electric State”, whereas Russo elaborated on the adaptations made from the original comic book.
He clarified that instead of directly copying the visuals from the book, we focused on incorporating its characters and maintaining the book’s overall mood or atmosphere.
The Electric State is released on Netflix on March 14, 2025.
