Millie Bobby Brown lands career first in new Netflix movie about “memorable” real-life event

Millie Bobby Brown, best known for her role in Stranger Things, is starring in a new Netflix film. This project is a first for the actress, as she takes on a new type of role after years on the popular show, which will conclude this year.

According to Deadline, the actor is close to signing on to play Kerri Strug, the Olympic gymnast, in a movie titled Perfect.

Filming is pencilled in for next spring, with The Last Showgirl‘s Gia Coppola set to direct.

What to Read Next

If Brown lands the project, it will be the first time she’s played a real-life person on screen.

Kerri Strug competed for the USA in the 1996 Olympics. As a member of the famous ‘Magnificent Seven’ team, she bravely won a gold medal despite competing with a painful ankle injury.

She completed her final vault, but then needed help from her coach to leave the arena. Despite a serious injury, her teammates insisted the medal ceremony wait until she could be there to receive it with them. Doctors later determined she had suffered a severe lateral sprain and tendon damage, requiring hospital treatment.

According to Deadline, securing the rights to tell this story – described as a truly memorable Olympic moment – could be a strategic move for Brown to gain awards-season recognition, similar to how Margot Robbie pursued accolades with her role in *I, Tonya*.

Brown has quite a few post-Stranger Things projects in the pipeline, all with Netflix.

She also adapted her novel, *Nineteen Steps*, into a script. This fictional story draws inspiration from events experienced by her grandmother during the 1940s.

I’m so excited for her next rom-com, *Just Picture It* – I heard they’re starting to film it really soon! And I can’t wait for the third *Enola Holmes* movie too – they finished filming that earlier this year, which means it should be out before we know it!

Perfect does not have a release window at the moment.
