Miley Cyrus Fires Back at Grace Jones with Bold Confession About Fan Merch Theft

Miley Cyrus took a swipe at her pop rival as she had a hilarious fan encounter in NYC this week.

In 2015, Miley Cyrus, then 32 years old and known for her hit songs about flowers, found herself at the center of a public disagreement with music legend Grace Jones, who was 76 at the time. Jones claimed that Cyrus had inappropriately imitated her style.

In her memoir, Slave To The Rhythm author and performer Jones expressed criticism: ‘The issue with artists like Nicki Minaj and Miley, however, is that they attain their objectives rapidly. There seems to be a lack of strategic planning for the long term. They appear to defy societal norms by dressing provocatively, but in reality, donning these clothes, making these facial expressions, displaying those tattoos and body modifications, singing to those disjointed, distorted beats – this is now the established pattern.’

Instead of venturing far from the usual path, discovering hidden riches unknown to others, you’re right in the midst of a common route.

Or more casually:

You’re not off on some wild adventure finding uncharted treasures, but smack dab in the middle of an ordinary road.

In a video shared on X account, Hannah Montana’s star found herself surrounded by fans and unexpectedly received a New York Post newspaper front page featuring her, at age 15, partially covered by a sheet from the contentious Vanity Fair cover where she was shown nude.

On the headline that Cyrus had earlier criticized, it stated: “Miley’s Scandal: Apologies from TV’s Hannah over almost naked photo.

After Cyrus confessed that she had never actually seen a newspaper front page in person, she added her signature and joked, “I’m not like Grace Jones, who swipes all the merchandise… if you ask her to sign a magazine, she’ll probably take it instead.

DailyMail.com has contacted representatives for Grace Jones for comment.

When Annie Leibovitz took the photograph of young Miley Cyrus, it sparked a massive controversy, leading to an apology from Cyrus for that particular shot.

According to Disney’s representative, it appears that a scenario was intentionally concocted to mislead a 15-year-old for the purpose of boosting magazine sales.

Cyrus expressed her own thoughts following a photoshoot labeled as ‘artistic’, stating: “Looking back at the photos and the accompanying article, I’m filled with embarrassment. I didn’t mean for any of this to occur, and I sincerely apologize to my devoted fans.

However she later walked back the apology in 2018, tweeting: ‘IM NOT SORRY. F**k YOU.’

At the time this picture was snapped, my younger sibling Noah was present on the set. Surprisingly, she was even seated alongside Annie Leibovitz, capturing her own photos as well.

The atmosphere on set was devoid of any inappropriate or sexual undertones. Regrettably, it was the toxic assumptions and thoughts among us that distorted the original intent. Therefore, instead of feeling embarrassed, perhaps it is more appropriate for them to acknowledge their role in this misunderstanding.

The Grammy and Golden Globe-nominated individual subtly indicated that she experienced stress due to her team and Disney Channel expressing disapproval over Vanity Fair allegedly manipulating her, with the intention of boosting magazine sales.

‘I think I [apologized at the time], but I’m sure someone told me to,’ Miley explained.

Funny thing is, after thinking about it, I’ve decided not to follow advice like that in the future, since it just didn’t seem promising.

Cyrus stated: “I’ve been striving to grasp the concept of being a role model, and for me, embodying that role seems to be about expressing my carefree personality and at times showing an assertive, unyielding demeanor.

In her memoir, Jones stated elsewhere: ‘Others who’ve become wealthy from my work seem to think I’m as affluent as they are.’

However, my actions were driven more by thrill, challenge, and novelty, rather than financial gain. Unfortunately, I found myself as the pioneer rather than the recipient far too often.

‘Trends come along and people say, ‘Follow that trend’.

Currently, there’s a trend to emulate several popular artists: Sasha Fierce (Beyoncé), Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Rita Ora, Sia, and even Madonna. In simpler terms, people are trying to express themselves like these influential women in music and entertainment.

‘I cannot be like them – except to the extent that they are already being like me.’

Jones initially made a name for himself within the New York City social circle, particularly during the disco period associated with Studio 54 in the latter half of the 1970s.

By the 1980s, her musical style shifted towards new wave, taking influence from various genres such as reggae, funk, post-punk, and pop music.

OR

In the 1980s, she transitioned to a new wave genre, finding inspiration in diverse styles including reggae, funk, post-punk, and popular music.

With her captivating appearance and a knack for fashion, Jones managed to land Tp 40 hits like “Private Life”, “Pull Up The Bumper”, “I’ve Seen That Face Before”, and “Slave To The Rhythm”.

Or, more casually:

Jones, being both beautiful and a trendsetter, landed popular songs on Tp 40 with titles like “Private Life”, “Pull Up The Bumper”, “I’ve Seen That Face Before”, and “Slave To The Rhythm”.

In the 1980s, she too achieved success as an actress, appearing in movies like “Conan the Destroyer” in 1984, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, and “A View to a Kill,” which was released in 1985 and featured Roger Moore as part of the James Bond series – it being the fourteenth film in that franchise.

Throughout my career spanning years and decades, I’ve had the honor of inspiring numerous gifted women in music, such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Annie Lennox, Lorde, and Solange Knowles (Beyoncé’s sister), to name but a few. It’s truly humbling to see my impact reflected in their work.
