Miley Cyrus fans claim to be ‘healed’ as she confirms Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special

Miley Cyrus excited longtime fans by announcing she’s joining a special to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hannah Montana.

A short video posted on Instagram Tuesday showed just a quick look at the heeled boots worn by the 33-year-old star’s well-known character.

She played the lead role of Miley Stewart, a teenager who lived a double life as the famous pop star Hannah Montana, in the popular Disney Channel series that aired from 2006 to 2011.

Miley Cyrus, recently in the news following a Grammy Awards situation, will be a guest on the Call Her Daddy podcast. The interview, hosted by Alex Cooper, will be available to stream on Disney+ starting March 24th.

Dedicated fans of the pop star, known as Smilers, were thrilled with the announcement, with one fan expressing that it felt deeply healing.

Fans expressed deep emotion online, with one writing, ‘I’m crying, you’re crying, we’re all crying.’ Another fan shared a feeling of nostalgia, simply writing, ‘MY WHOLE CHILDHOOD’ along with crying and tearful emojis.

A recent announcement stated that a special event will honor the popular series that many people grew up with, marking 20 years since it first aired on Disney Channel.

The interview will provide a personal and detailed account of how one of pop culture’s most famous characters was created, and how the show and character continue to resonate with fans globally.

This special will feature Cyrus looking back at the music and memorable scenes from the popular kids’ show. They’re even recreating some of the original sets, like Hannah Montana’s closet and the Stewart family’s living room.

Disney also promises that fans will also be able to view never-before-seen footage.

Miley Cyrus shared that ‘Hannah Montana’ will always hold a special place in her heart. She explained that the show wasn’t just a TV program, but a meaningful experience that impacted both her life and the lives of her many fans, and she’s grateful for that bond.

I’m really proud that people still connect with it after all this time. This ‘Hannahversary’ is how I like to celebrate and show my gratitude to the fans who have supported me for the past 20 years.

It’s still unclear whether Miley Cyrus will sing any of her famous songs from the show Hannah Montana. She previously mentioned being prevented from performing those songs after her time with Disney ended.

As a huge fan, I was absolutely floored when she finally addressed it on the Every Single Album podcast last June! It turns out what we’d all suspected for years was true – she wasn’t allowed to perform any of her older songs from when she was on the Disney Channel. It was so good to finally get confirmation!

‘After I left Disney, I wasn’t allowed to perform any of the Hannah Montana music. It’s not like I wanted to, I mean, performing ‘The Best of Both Worlds’ between ‘We Can’t Stop,’ and ‘Wrecking Ball’ wouldn’t have really made sense,’ the singer said.

Even so, it was upsetting to realize those songs featured my voice and image, yet I couldn’t perform them myself.

Becoming a Disney Legend meant they gave me the okay to perform those songs again, which is really exciting!

Fans on Reddit were shocked to learn the Flowers hitmaker was banned from singing her own songs.

‘Not The Mouse keeping Best of Both Worlds from us,’ someone joked.

That’s surprising because it would mean she was the only person who didn’t realize you can create your own versions of songs without needing permission—unlike using someone else’s actual recording, which requires a license, someone pointed out.

Someone else commented that they’d immediately buy tickets to a Hannah Waddingham concert. They still feel sad about never having seen her perform live, saying they were a big fan.

Someone suggested it would be amazing if she performed a Super Bowl halftime show featuring her hit song, ‘Best of Both Worlds’.

One person commented, saying they couldn’t fathom the feeling of performing those songs again with so much influence, and that the artist truly earned this moment.

Someone commented that Disney has a lot of control over the people who work for them, and that a particular performer should have been given more say in their work.

A surprised fan exclaimed, “I can’t believe she wasn’t allowed to perform! I absolutely love Hannah Montana’s songs and really hope we get to see her sing them live someday!”

A person simply wrote: ‘Disney sucks for that.’Ā

DailyMail.com contacted Disney for comment at the time.Ā

The rule was removed after Miley Cyrus received the Disney Legend award in August 2024, making her the youngest person ever to receive this honor.

The Disney Legend Award recognizes someone who has made a lasting impact on both The Walt Disney Company and the entertainment world.

During a heartfelt speech at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, she shared her experiences working with Disney.

Miley dedicated the award to her alter ego.

She described landing her big break as realizing what she wanted from life. From that point forward, she knew exactly what she wanted to pursue and didn’t want anything else.

It’s so strange to think about how much has shifted since then, yet in a way, it feels like nothing really has. I’ll always be incredibly proud of my time as Hannah Montana, and that feeling hasn’t changed a bit.

Later in her speech, she explained that the award was really for Hannah and her incredible fans, as well as everyone who had helped her achieve her goals. She finished by quoting Hannah herself, who once said, “This is the life.”

Miley Cyrus recently performed ‘The Climb’ live for the first time in years at a small event hosted by TikTok, according to People magazine.

I hosted a really special event recently – a listening party for my new album, ‘Something Beautiful’. It was so moving to perform, and the fans’ reaction was incredibly emotional. Seeing how the music connected with everyone was a truly beautiful experience.

‘I’m not singing ‘The Climb’ but I could,’ she teased in a TikTok of the moment.

HerĀ pianist Michael Pollack started playing the chords and she started to belt out the lyrics.Ā

Briefly, sheĀ stopped to ask the crowd, ‘Is that the right word?’ and ‘Do you know the chorus?’

It was such a special moment! As soon as Miley finished performing and the crowd went wild, she shared how her drummer – and boyfriend! – Maxx Morando had dreamed of playing that particular song with her since they were both in middle school. It was just so sweet and felt really personal.
