Miles Teller’s career has seen both successes and failures with critics. He appeared alongside Tom Cruise in the hugely popular Top Gun: Maverick, and Cruise is likely to be remembered as one of the most iconic actors of our time. However, Teller also starred in 2015’s Fantastic Four, which is widely considered a terrible superhero movie.
I was chatting with Miles Teller recently, and we got onto the topic of big box office successes. It’s funny, most actors would probably point to a superhero film as their biggest earner, but Teller doesn’t fit that mold. He actually said…
I didn’t succeed when I previously tried to launch a superhero movie series, so joining the world of Top Gun was a welcome change. I’m really grateful to Tom Cruise for giving me that opportunity.
Bruce Teller thoughtfully avoided mentioning Fantastic Four, a film even its director, Josh Trank, later criticized. Considering recent successes like Top Gun: Maverick and the actor’s current film, Eternals (which has a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), he’s now able to laugh about it.
Miles Teller wasn’t drawn to Top Gun: Maverick just for the paycheck. He was especially impressed by Tom Cruise’s commitment to making a truly great film, and appreciated being included in the process. He shared what that dedication looked like from his perspective.
For over thirty years, people had been wanting Tom Cruise to make another Top Gun movie. But he didn’t just jump at the chance to repeat a past success. He insisted on a great story. I was really thankful to be part of that, playing Goose’s son and having such a central role. And the fans were amazing – they really loved it! It’s incredible when a movie makes $1.5 billion; it proves you’ve connected with an audience. You even see people who got Top Gun tattoos years ago now bringing their children to see the sequel.
I really enjoy listening to Miles Teller talk passionately about Top Gun: Maverick. It’s gotten me incredibly excited for the next movie, even though we don’t know when it will be released yet. However, considering how enthusiastic both Teller and Tom Cruise seem to be about it, I doubt we’ll have to wait much longer.

Jimmy Fallon playfully questioned Miles Teller about why he seems to consistently put himself in high-pressure situations by participating in the often-challenging Saturday Night Live cold opens, and I agree with Teller’s response.
Miles Teller won’t have trouble finding work, though. He’s already landed a big role in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic and has several other projects in the works. Honestly, if his biggest career setback is simply not starring in a hit superhero movie, he’s doing pretty well.
With so many original actors returning to their superhero roles for Avengers: Doomsday, it’s possible we might see Miles Teller reprise his role as Reed Richards. While his appearance hasn’t been officially confirmed, the return of other MCU actors makes it a real possibility. Many fans, including myself, would be thrilled to see him back!
You can currently see him in the new film, Eternity, which is playing in theaters. As a big fan of going to the movies during the holidays, I plan to watch it before I start enjoying my favorite Christmas films.
