Mike Flanagan's 2016 slasher film Hush will finally be available to watch again this August

As a dedicated gamer and horror movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and relief at the news that Mike Flanagan’s “Hush” will finally be available for digital purchase or rental starting August 27. This film holds a special place in my heart, having first discovered it on Netflix several years ago. The unique premise of a deaf and mute horror author (played brilliantly by Kate Siegel) being stalked by a killer in her secluded home resonated with me on a deep level.

MovieWeb’s press release announces that as of August 27, in the U.S. and Canada, viewers can rent or buy the movie “Hush” through digital platforms. This arrangement was made possible by Flanagan, Blumhouse, Intrepid Pictures, and Shout! Studios.

First introduced at South by Southwest in 2016, “Hush” features Kate Siegel as Maddie, a deaf-mute writer who moves from the city to a quieter location for uninterrupted work on her novel. One evening, while her friend is visiting, a crossbow-carrying attacker strikes, discovering Maddie’s deafness and intending to prey on her next.)

“Although ‘Hush’ wasn’t Flanagan’s initial feature film, it gained significant early success, largely due to its availability on Netflix soon after its premieres. The film remained on the streaming platform for seven consecutive years until its digital license expired in April 2023 and was subsequently removed.”

After Netflix removed the movie from their platform, Flanagan has been working diligently to make it accessible to viewers once again. Excitingly, fans can now purchase or rent the film starting in August. In his recent post (mentioned above), Flanagan hinted “there’s more to come,” suggesting that a physical copy may still be under production!

HUSH is one of the projects that is closest to my heart, and I cannot think of a better home than Shout! I’m so glad that people will finally be able to rent or purchase the film digitally. I’ve always loved how Shout! Studios champions and treasures their titles, and I also cannot wait for what’s to come… fans of HUSH are going to have much to celebrate!

In our previous post, we noted that Flanagan announced a physical copy of “Hush” was in development during the ATX Festival in Texas this year. He shared then that they had created some impressive new features for it, implying that the DVD/Blu-ray release of the film will come packed with exciting extras.
