Midnight Society announces its closure, seeking employment opportunities for its members

The group known as Midnight Society, creators of the game DEADROP, and previously connected with DrDisrespect, have made an announcement that they will be permanently shutting down their operations.

Established by Guy “DrDisrespect” Beahm along with experienced professionals like Robert “fourzertwo” Bowling, Midnight Society aimed to disrupt the core of multiplayer gaming. Unfortunately, their project called DEADROP failed to make its debut and the company has now announced it will be shutting down operations.

Following numerous broadcasts and trials by several well-known personalities, including DrDisrespect himself, it seems that this game may have been its undoing. Of course, you’re all aware of the incident involving the old doctor and his ban from Twitch and the studio, which appeared to be a fatal blow for Midnight Society.

Midnight Society shuts down after just three years

As I dived into the gaming world, I found myself drawn to the thrilling adventure that Midnight Society had crafted – DEADROP. This game was a unique blend of extraction shooter and battle royale genres, offering an exhilarating experience like no other. It was designed as a vertical shooter, where my character would start at ground level and the challenge was to ascend, engaging in intense battles along the way. The journey was tough, but the adrenaline rush made every moment worth it!

The backlash started due to concerns about its microtransactions and aggressive promotion of NFTs. This anger intensified when it was discovered that DrDisrespect had sent inappropriate messages on Twitch to a minor, effectively sinking DEADROP.

Upon his comeback to YouTube streaming for the second time, he referenced The Midnight Society in his description as well as other social media platforms. Previously, we sought a comment on this matter and Bowling, the Studio Head, clarified that Beahm holds no affiliation with the studio or its game.

In this situation, opinions about Beahm seem to be divided. Some individuals have decided to distance themselves from Midnight Society and DEADROP entirely due to his past involvement. On the other hand, others have chosen to persist in their support of him, even though his misconduct has been confirmed. For some, his lack of involvement in these projects was a factor that allowed them to move on, while for others, their continued backing of him is motivated by some personal reasons.

Following all those events, DEADROP and Midnight Society’s activities remained largely unnoticed by many. It is now clear that they were preparing to close permanently. Here’s the announcement made through the studio’s official Twitter account:

Today marks the sad news that The Midnight Society is set to shut down following an exceptional run of nearly three years. An impressive group of more than 55 talented developers have played a significant role in crafting our latest intellectual property, DEADROP.

We’re actively looking for other game studios who might be keen on providing job opportunities for our skilled team members.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone within our community for their unwavering support. Regrettably, we didn’t manage to achieve our final objective.

In summary, they are closing shop, but I admire their efforts in seeking a new home for their team. Unfortunately, it remains unclear whether the DEADROP project will be adopted by another studio, if the game will continue, or if this marks its final chapter too.
