In the Mickey 17 trailer, we find Mickey astronautically adrift and slightly lightheaded, followed by him losing an arm. It turns out he volunteered to be disposable for space travel. Later, it’s disclosed that each time Mickey perishes, a fresh copy of his body is produced.

In the trailer, a voice says, “Every time he dies, we gain fresh knowledge, propelling humanity forward.” The screen then shows another one of Mickey’s demises. Afterward, it’s revealed that there are multiple versions of him, which they refer to as “Multiples.” Later on, Mark Ruffalo’s character, Kenneth Marshall, expresses a desire for their elimination, acting as a politician.
