Michelle Keegan shares heartfelt tribute to husband Mark Wright’s beloved late grandfather Eddie

Michelle Keegan paid a touching homage to her husband Mark Wright’s cherished grandfather, Eddie, after he passed away at the age of 92.

37-year-old ex-TOWIE star Mark experienced a heartbreaking moment only a few days after he and Michelle, also 37, revealed they were having their first baby. Unfortunately, his cherished grandfather passed away, with family members by his side.

The television host’s grandpa had been dealing with health problems stemming from a summer fall, leading to his admission into the hospital.

On Tuesday, it was announced by a spokesperson for Mark that Eddie had passed away in the comfort of his own home, with his dear ones around him. However, Mark himself did not make any statement until Saturday, when he posted a heartfelt tribute.

A while afterward, Michelle reposted the picture on her story, labeling it as follows: ‘Grandad Eddie… truly a gentleman (heart and prayer symbols)’. This charming snapshot features Mark and his grandfather, Eddie.

Following a spell of mourning over his grandfather’s passing, Mark posted a touching vintage photo from his Instagram on the weekend, dedicating it to his greatest champion, and promised to carry on in ways that would make his grandfather feel proud.

For the past 37 years, I’ve frequently pondered and even asked my Grandad a question I carried since childhood: “Grandad, when do you think you’ll make your journey to heaven?” I asked this question repeatedly because I found the thought of it quite distressing. (First-person perspective as a lifestyle expert)

From countless individuals, some whom I haven’t crossed paths with in over two decades, I’ve received heartfelt messages. Each one echoes the same heartwarming sentiments, using slightly different words. They call me a Gentleman, Kind-hearted, and Legend – titles that were mine, yet so much more.

‘Your affection for your family was immense, and the pinnacle of your achievements lies in the strong bond we share and the large number of us who make up our family.’

Mark added: “You never showed anger, always supported us, no matter what the situation was, and never declined, not even when I asked you to join me on my bachelor party in Las Vegas at 83 (you are still the only person who ever ordered a cup of tea in a Las Vegas nightclub at 2am). If you had scolded us for misbehaving as children, you would have apologized.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but reflect on our shared moments. Every time we parted from your abode, you’d wave us off from the window – a gesture that echoed your unwavering kindness and consideration for others. Even in your final hours, when breath was scarce and energy dwindling, you managed to say, “I’ll come down and see you off, son.” That phrase encapsulates your essence: putting everyone else before yourself.

You managed to make everyone feel truly valued, and the positive impact you had has stuck with them. My friends, my wife, and all who met you hold you dear. Although no one can fill the void left by someone as extraordinary as you were, we can ensure your memory continues to inspire us.

I’ll carry on being the considerate man you showed me how to be, take good care of Nanny, and do my best to keep making you proud. One fact remains undeniable: You have always been my greatest champion.

He concluded the message with a heartfelt farewell: ‘Thank you, Grandad, for everything. I am incredibly thankful to have loved you, been your friend, learned from you, coached by you in boxing, driven by you, looked up to you, and above all, be your grandson, Grandad Eddie, you’re a legend! I love you forever.’

On Tuesday, a representative for the ex-TOWIE star announced the unfortunate news to TopMob, stating: “Mark’s grandfather passed away last night. He passed away tranquilly at home, with his cherished family members nearby.

Eddie, Mark’s paternal grandfather, used to be a top-tier boxer in his day. Last year, he had to be admitted to the hospital following a fall.

Mark Wright posted a photo of his father, affectionately known as “Big’ Mark,” on Instagram for Father’s Day. Despite being hospitalized due to a fall a few days prior, he wrote, “Happy Father’s Day to the best! Unfortunately, you’re in the hospital right now, but Dad, I’m heading up to see you now. Stay strong, xxx.” In simpler terms, Mark uploaded a picture of his dad (Big’ Mark) on Instagram for Father’s Day. Although he was in the hospital due to a fall recently, he expressed that he was on his way to visit his father and encouraged him to stay strong.

Over time, Eddie has often found himself in the spotlight as a member of the Wright family. A notable instance was when he teamed up with his grandson Mark on the BBC show “Who Do You Think You Are?” in 2019.

Mark revealed his grandfather was his motivation for going on the show.

He’s expressed a long-standing desire to trace our family origins because his grandfather often speculated about it. However, no one has ever been able to confirm our ancestry.

It’s wonderful to inform him that our lineage is Italian, a fact he was previously told. Giving him this knowledge back brings me joy. He has contributed significantly to us, and we consider him as our monarch.

‘It’s hard to repay him but this was that moment before it’s too late.’

In the show, Mark portrayed Eddie as a former British boxing champion who is quite formidable, yet beneath that tough exterior lies a kind and courteous gent.

During the program, Mark discovered numerous details about his paternal ancestors and shared with viewers their upbringing in London’s East End.

My ancestor, several generations back, was quite the character from the East End. He had a knack for mischief, but all his actions were primarily aimed at providing for his loved ones.

Originally residing in East Ham with a small home accommodating eight children, he was an individual whose virtues I came to appreciate over time. Concealing his true age for enlistment purposes, he proved to be a highly valued member of the military.

Additionally, Mark openly showed his affection for Eddie while on air at Heart Radio amidst lockdown, choking up as he shared listener messages about longing for their loved ones.

He expressed that the message from Grandad, especially Grandad Eddie, stirred him deeply, as he yearns for his grandfather tremendously. He shared affectionately that he adores you greatly, and eagerly looks forward to meeting you again soon.

Eddie’s death occurred ten days following the announcement that he and his wife, Michelle, were anticipating their first child together.

Television personality Mark and actress Michelle announced joyfully that they’re going to have their first baby, sharing the delightful news through an endearing Instagram post on December 29.

Actress Michelle, who’s popular on Netflix, tenderly held her growing belly and penned: “The year 2025 promises to be extraordinary for us…✨

The pair was inundated with well wishes from friends and relatives on their Instagram post, with messages coming even from celebrities like Rochelle Humes, Kelly Brook, Vicky Pattison, and their close companion Arg.
