Michael Sheen and Sharon Horgan’s compelling British drama finds new streaming home
A compelling BBC drama starring Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen has found a new streaming home.
The story revolves around the couple, Nicci (Horgan) and Andrew (Sheen), and their daughter, Marnie (Moriarty), who has a unique type of muscular dystrophy. A turn of events leads to Marnie getting admitted into a hospital due to a chest infection. The well-being and care for their child, therefore, becomes the utmost priority – this is essentially about their best interests.
As a gamer, I find myself in a heart-wrenching situation, one that mirrors the plight of Nicci and Andrew. The doctors have suggested that it would be best for Marnie if we let treatment cease and allow nature to take its course. Yet, my friends stand firm, unwilling to accept this fate for Marnie. They’re determined to keep fighting, navigating through the complex labyrinth of legal battles, while also grappling with the profound ethical and moral dilemmas surrounding Marnie’s quality of life.
Following its broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, the four-episode series has now been made accessible for American viewers to stream on Acorn TV.
The program boasts a remarkable 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as Digital Spy’s critique labels it an “unbelievable yet captivating drama.
In its nuanced examination of a complex matter, the movie “Best Interests” doesn’t lecture or dictate. However, it certainly has its perspective, and the interpretation you draw from it will likely vary based on your own point of view.
Best Interests comes from Jack Thorne, the writer behind This Is England, The Virtues, and Help.
Discussing her involvement with the shows “Catastrophe” and “Motherland”, the star Sharon Horgan admitted that she initially needed a bit of persuasion before agreeing to be part of the projects.
At first, my enthusiasm to take on the task stemmed from the opportunity to converse with Jack Thorne. Over the years, I’ve admired his work greatly, dreamt of collaborating with him, and appreciated his writing style immensely, which is why I shared this with Collider.
She went on to say: “For years, I’ve been a fan of Michael Sheen. The prospect of acting alongside him was delightful. However, while I was in the middle of Bad Sisters, I found myself questioning how it would all come together. They reassured me, saying, ‘Don’t worry, they’ll hold off for you. You’ll get a few months of break.’
After wrapping up my role in “Bad Sisters,” I confided in my agent that I wasn’t sure if I could handle the intense emotional demands of “Best Interests.” However, a sit-down with director Michael Keillor managed to change my mind. His passion and vision for the project truly resonated with me.
Best Interests is available to stream in the UK on BBC iPlayer, and in the US via Acorn T.
