Michael Keaton wants to start using his real name
As a seasoned gamer who has seen countless movies and their sequels, I can confidently say that the return of Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice is a long-awaited delight! The fact that he’s planning to revert his professional name to Michael Keaton Douglas adds an exciting layer of nostalgia.
Michael Keaton is planning to use his real name for future projects.
Michael Keaton, famous for playing the character Beetlejuice in the movie of the same name, shared that he had to change his birth name to a stage name when launching his acting career in the ’70s. This was because the Screen Actors Guild doesn’t allow members to use another member’s professional name.
To avoid confusion due to the existing use of his birth name by an award-winning actor and a talk show host, he had to think outside the box when choosing a stage name.
The actor reminisced about choosing his stage name to People magazine, saying, “I think I was flipping through – though I can’t recall if it was a directory or something similar.
It seems like I might have said something along the lines of, “I must not have known, let me think about it for a moment.” Then, I probably responded with, “That does sound plausible.
For future projects, Keaton wants to change his official acting credit to Michael Keaton Douglas.
Last year, the Oscar-nominated individual had planned to carry out the action during the filming of his own production, “Knox Goes Away,” but unfortunately, the project ended up taking an unexpected turn for him.
He mentioned, “‘By the way, my credit might look like Michael Keaton Douglas,’ but I ended up saying too much about it.” He clarified.
“And I forgot to give them enough time to put it in and create that. But that will happen.”
At present, you can catch Keaton in the much-anticipated follow-up to Tim Burton’s 1988 blockbuster “Beetlejuice” on the big screen.
In a fun twist, the actors Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara will once again bring to life their iconic characters Beetlejuice and Delia Deetz, respectively. Joining them is Jenna Ortega, who takes on the role of Lydia Deetz’s teenage daughter Astrid in this impressive ensemble cast.
Keaton recently spoke about how the sequel improves upon its predecessor, sharing: “[It has] a stronger story. There’s more of a connection for the audience in terms of the other characters. There’s things in here that I wasn’t ready for, that are beyond delightful.”
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is out now in cinemas.
