Michael Jackson accusers seek massive $400M payout over alleged sexual abuse

Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who accuse Michael Jackson of sexually abusing them when they were children, are asking for $400 million in a legal claim.

According to Us Weekly, court documents filed by Michael Jackson’s estate show a significant financial figure related to a disagreement with his daughter, Paris, 27, over lawyer costs.

Until now, it wasn’t clear how much money Robson and Safechuck were asking for in their lawsuits against Jackson’s businesses, MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures. The two men, aged 43 and 47 respectively, had previously kept the amount confidential.

The Estate is currently involved in at least five litigations and arbitrations.

On top of existing money problems, Paris is disputing the increasing legal costs charged by the Estate’s lawyers. These fees have been rising because the Estate has brought in several different law firms to deal with various matters, including the current lawsuit from Safechuck and Robson.

Honestly, I’m terrified! I heard the team handling everything is worried about money, and if they don’t get paid, it could mean they lose the case with Robson and Safechuck. Losing that case would be absolutely devastating – a total nightmare! I’m just so stressed about it all.

The estate would likely lose current lawsuits and face huge financial penalties without legal representation, according to the executors.

The Estate would also be deprived of expert legal guidance for its valuable intellectual property – the foundation of its business. This includes losing legal support for successful ventures like the MJ One Cirque show, the Broadway production MJ: The Musical, and the upcoming Michael movie.

Paris argued that some of the legal fees were too high and requested the court to restrict the executors’ ability to pay them.

However, the executors disagree with her claim, stating that the fees she’s referring to are standard for this type of work.

In the HBO documentary ‘Leaving Neverland,’ Robson and Safechuck allege that Michael Jackson sexually abused them when they were children.

Jackson was never convicted of a crime, and his companies continue to deny the allegations.

Robson alleges that Michael Jackson sexually abused him starting when he was seven years old and continuing until he was fourteen. This abuse began after Robson won a dance contest impersonating Jackson.

He and Safechuck have teamed up as they sue the late singer’s estate in a bid for justice.

Even though he later accused Michael Jackson, Wade testified in Jackson’s defense in 2005 during accusations of child molestation. A jury in Santa Barbara ultimately found Jackson not guilty.

Wade remembered that Jackson had repeatedly pleaded with him to publicly defend him, which led to his decision to testify in the documentary.

Wade recalled Jackson saying, “We can’t let them do this to us, we can’t let them take us down.” He explained that he was genuinely afraid of Jackson’s warning that they both could end up in jail if anyone discovered what they were involved in.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve often seen how even the most successful people can struggle with personal issues. In the case of Michael Jackson, his former lawyer, Vince Finaldi, shared that Michael would call him constantly, desperately seeking assistance. It was clear he was really reaching out for support during a difficult time.

Wade said he eventually found the courage to tell Michael he didn’t want to be a witness, but the court then issued him a subpoena, forcing him to provide evidence in the trial.

He told the documentary he lied during the court case in order to protect Jackson.

He explained, ‘Michael and I loved each other, and that was all there was to it. It didn’t upset me at all – I was perfectly fine. I knew it might seem like a big deal to others, but it wasn’t to me, so I didn’t see any point in making a fuss.’

During the court case, Wade was asked directly if Jackson had ever sexually touched him. He firmly answered, ‘No, absolutely not,’ stating he made direct eye contact and was unambiguous in his response.

‘I wasn’t able to tell the truth. Absolutely not.’

Wade didn’t begin legal action against Michael Jackson’s companies, MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures, until after he himself got married and became a father. These lawsuits came years after the singer’s death in 2009.

The lawsuits claim Jackson’s staff arranged the interactions that led to the alleged abuse, and that the staff knew about the abuse while it was happening.

James faced a difficult choice about whether to participate in the lawsuit, ultimately deciding to file one in 2014, following Wade’s lead by a year. He explained his motivation, stating, ‘I wanted to fight for my son, James, and for my own rights.’

I’ve been thinking about my younger self, especially my childhood, and trying to reach out to that part of me. It’s like wanting to tell a little boy, James, that everything is alright and that he is loved. I’m hoping that by connecting with that child within, I can reconnect with myself.

In 2017, the courts dismissed the cases brought by Wade and James. The legal deadline for filing claims related to childhood abuse had passed, meaning they waited too long to take legal action.

The law now allows more time for reporting childhood sexual assault. Previously, victims had until age 26 to report; now, they have until age 40.

However, when the court dismissed the cases brought by the people claiming to be victims, they appealed to the California Court of Appeals.

In 2023, three judges held a remote hearing and decided that Wade and James were allowed to pursue their lawsuit in court.

The world was stunned on June 25, 2009, by the news of Michael Jackson’s death at age 50. He died from a heart attack caused by an overdose of the anesthetic Propofol, shortly before he was scheduled to start a 50-concert comeback tour.

Jackson received a strong medication from his doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray. Investigators said Jackson referred to the drug – which was given through an IV – as ‘milk’ and explained he required it to fall asleep.

Investigators determined Michael Jackson’s death was a homicide. Over two years later, in November 2011, his doctor, Conrad Murray, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to four years in prison.

Michael Jackson enjoyed an incredibly successful music career, becoming one of the best-selling artists ever. He received 13 Grammy Awards from a total of 38 nominations. Some of his Grammy wins included Best R&B Vocal Performance for “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough” in 1980, and both Album of the Year and Record of the Year in 1984 for *Thriller* and “Beat It,” respectively.

I’ve always been a huge fan, so it meant the world to me when he received the Grammy Legend Award back in 1993. And even after he was gone, The Recording Academy honored his incredible life’s work with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. It was fantastic to see him finally inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 – a truly deserved recognition of his impact on music.
