Michael J. Fox’s Teen Wolf Will Stream for Free Very Soon

Michael J. Fox was incredibly popular in the 1980s. He starred in the successful TV show Family Ties and also appeared in two blockbuster movies, including Teen Wolf, which will soon be available to stream for free.

The 1985 fantasy film Teen Wolf will be available to stream on Tubi starting November 1st. However, the actor involved didn’t have a great experience making the movie, unlike the recent time-traveling Teen Wolf series on Fox. While it earned $80 million worldwide on a $4 million budget, the film received mixed reviews, with a 46% rating from critics and 52% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

In the movie Teen Wolf, Michael J. Fox plays Scott Howard, a high school student who learns his family has a history of werewolves. Scott, typically a bit of a nerd, uses his newfound strength to become a surprisingly successful basketball player and a local hero. According to Entertainment Weekly, Fox recently revealed in his memoir, Future Boy, that he felt exploited while working on the film, stating it made him “feel like a whore.”

Looking back, I already knew Teen Wolf wasn’t going to be my greatest work. I remember one day on set, the prop guy asked me to pose with a chocolate bar for photos. Apparently, they needed to prove to the candy company that we’d actually used their product in the movie. Covered in yak hair and feeling ridiculous, I blurted out that I felt like a total sell-out. And the prop guy, without missing a beat, just said, ‘Well, you are one.’ It was a pretty jarring moment, honestly.

Fox Previously Complained About Teen Wolf

In his first book, Lucky Man, he reflected on his experience making the movie Teen Wolf. He admitted he wasn’t sure what he was thinking at the time, questioning his decision but noting it seemed to work for Michael Landon. He described the difficult process of wearing the wolf makeup – layers of rubber and yak hair glued to his face made eating nearly impossible. He confessed to asking friends if the role would ruin his career, and they kindly reassured him it would be fine, even though they weren’t being truthful. Ultimately, even if Teen Wolf had stalled his film career, he still had the success of Family Ties to fall back on.

Although Michael J. Fox wasn’t happy with making the original Teen Wolf, the studio decided to create a sequel. However, Fox didn’t reprise his role in Teen Wolf Too, which came out in 1987. Instead, Jason Bateman played Todd Howard, Scott Howard’s cousin. The sequel wasn’t successful, earning only $7.9 million globally. Critics and audiences both disliked the film, giving it low ratings of 8% and 17% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.

Teen Wolf Too, along with Teen Wolf, will stream for free on Tubi beginning Nov. 1.
