Michael J. Fox’s forgotten fling with Nancy McKeon sparked friendship with future Melrose Place star

Michael J. Fox and Doug Savant have been friends for a while now, having first crossed paths through their mutual friend, Nancy McKeon, who was dating Fox back in the 1980s during her time on The Facts of Life.

61-year-old Savant conversed with People about his enduring friendship with Fox (also 64) during Lifetime’s Summer Soirée event, which took place at the Santa Monica Proper Hotel on July 16th.

In honor of the 40th anniversary since the August 1985 release, Savant had a conversation with the media about the classic comedy “Teen Wolf.

1990s television star, recognized for his role as Matt Fielding on Melrose Place, made his film debut alongside Fox, marking his first appearance in movies as an up-and-coming actor.

In the ’80s, Fox became a major star, known for portraying Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties and Marty McFly, the time-traveling teenager, in the Back to the Future series.

In the film, the character Savant is depicted as Brad, a classmate and teammate in basketball with Scott Howard, the main character who has the unique power to change into a wolf while still attending high school.

The savant explained to the recipient details about his relationship with Fox, facilitated by McKeon, as well as how this connection aligned with his background in Southern California.

Savant shared that he was raised in Burbank, California, attended school with both Philip McKeon and Nancy McKeon. You might recognize Nancy McKeon from her role on Facts of Life, while Philip McKeon is known for his time on Alice. He also mentioned that they were close friends.

Savant deliberately chose not to disclose his association with McKeon, aged 59, to Fox, so as to avoid disturbing the celebrity.

Savant expressed that he simply aimed to perform his duties proficiently, without any unnecessary comments. Interestingly, you might recognize him as the character Tom Scavo from the popular ABC series Desperate Housewives.

In the first week of production, Fox discovered the link and confronted Savant regarding it.

After returning home, Nancy inquired, “Which actor is starring alongside you in the film? Show me the call sheet.” To which she replied, “Isn’t that Doug Savant? We used to be close friends.

Savant remarked, “‘Michael came to work one day and said, ‘Why didn’t you inform me about this?’ He was disappointed because I hadn’t shared the information with him.’

Subsequently, Savant stated that they quickly developed a strong camaraderie, indicating that he thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with the cherished actor during their work on Teen Wolf.

In simpler terms, Savant expressed a sense of fondness when reminiscing about his work on the movie by saying, “That film holds some wonderful memories for me.

He added of the movie’s longevity: ‘The movie has had a stunning lifetime, and people love it.

‘They made sequels, and it resonated. So I’m just grateful to have been a small part of it.

Savant said the movie was on TV while he was working on a new project and jarred his nostalgia.

In his memory, he found himself reminiscing about the moments when the catering crew member played films, and it was ‘Teen Wolf’ that was screened. Amidst starting work on a fresh production, I found myself engaged in watching ‘Teen Wolf’ inside the craft service trailer.

1985 saw Fox encountering actress Tracy Pollan, whom he collaborated with on Family Ties. However, despite this encounter, their bond was strictly friendly as they were involved with other partners at that moment, according to People’s report.

They started dating following their collaboration once more on the 1988 film “Bright Lights, Big City,” and they got married in the same year.

Fox and Pollan have four grown-up children: their eldest son, Sam Michael, who is 36 years old; their identical twin daughters, Aquinnah Kathleen and Schuyler Frances, both 30 years of age; and their daughter Esmé Annabelle, who is 23.

In 1991, at the age of 29, the actor from Back to the Future was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He didn’t disclose this information until 1998. Since then, he has been dedicatedly involved in charitable initiatives aimed at funding research for a potential cure.
