Michael Chandler defends Jon Jones
Legacy is not tied to a certain opponent… bet on yourself.
— Michael Chandler (@MikeChandlerMMA) August 30, 2024
Michael Chandler recently came forward, expressing support for UFC heavyweight Jon Jones who has been criticized for delaying his fight with Stipe Miocic and turning down an opportunity against Tom Aspinall. In a tweet, Chandler stated, “Legacy isn’t dependent on a specific opponent… bet on yourself.” This was in response to Jones’ explanation regarding his decision-making process.
It’s evident that Chandler seems to be expressing his own feelings, and interestingly, he advocates for Conor McGregor taking a break for the same reasons. Thus, it’s not surprising that he backs Jones in adopting a similar approach.
Usman Nurmagomedov finally responds to drug test
Bellator champion Usman Nurmagomedov, who faced a ban following a positive drug test in October, has finally broken his silence on the matter. The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) confirmed that Nurmagomedov presented evidence showing the mysterious substance was prescribed for therapeutic purposes. Although he hasn’t disclosed the specific substance or its intended use, during an interview with MMA Junkie, he stated: “If it were a steroid, they would have to specify, ‘This was a steroid.’ They must increase my suspension period, possibly up to two years. However, since it was medication and seemingly harmless, everything is fine now.”
In such complex scenarios, it can be challenging to determine who is truthful. If a prescription was given, one would expect it to be disclosed, I presume. Given the lack of comprehensive information, it’s difficult to pass judgement. All we can do is trust that the athletic commission will carry out their duties diligently.
The UFC 306 main event referee’s have been announced
Herb Dean has been assigned as the referee for the headlining matchup at UFC 306 between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili, which takes place at Sphere. The judges for this event will be Mike Bell, Sal D’Amato, and Chris Lee, according to the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC).

Herb Dean is set to officiate the main fight of UFC 306 between contenders Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili. The judging panel for this event consists of Mike Bell, Sal D’Amato, and Chris Lee.
Typically, I don’t give much thought to tasks like this one. However, there seems to be a controversy surrounding Dvalishvili and referee Marc Goddard due to some debatable early stoppages. This development could prove beneficial for Dvalishvili, who advocates for fighters being granted more time to engage in combat and defend themselves.
