Michael Caine’s British true crime thriller has just been added to Prime Video

In the United Kingdom and Ireland, you can now stream Michael Caine’s crime thriller titled “King of Thieves” on Amazon Prime Video.

The movie released in 2018 is inspired by the infamous Hatton Garden jewelry heist that occurred in April 2015. A group of elderly criminals managed to burglarize the Hatton Garden Safety Deposit Company vault in London, making off with approximately £200 million worth of valuables.

Apart from Michael Caine, who plays the titular role in “King of Thieves,” the cast also includes Jim Broadbent, Tom Courtenay, Ray Winstone, Michael Gambon, Paul Whitehouse, and Charlie Cox.

The movie is helmed by James Marsh, director of “The Theory of Everything,” and penned by Joe Penhall, the mind behind Netflix’s “Mindhunter.

Although boasting an impressive ensemble of actors, the film “King of Thieves” faced largely unfavorable responses from critics after its premiere, garnering only a 31% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 86 reviews.

The film titled “King of Thieves” brings together a remarkable ensemble for a robbery flick that seems promising, but regrettably, much of its potential fades away well before the opening of the end credits.

Apart from “King of Thieves,” another movie that draws inspiration from the Hatton Garden robbery is “The Hatton Garden Job,” which came out in 2017, featuring Larry Lamb, Matthew Goode, and Joely Richardson.

Simultaneously, they unveiled a four-part series called “Hatton Garden“, featuring Timothy Spall, Kenneth Cranham, and Brian F O’Byrne, which was inspired by real-life events.

The show had significant setbacks during its early stages because of an ongoing legal dispute regarding the true culprits. It finally aired in 2019 after all.

According to Jeff Pope, they had to delay it quite late, as he shared with Digital Spy. It was an entirely separate case, and there was a risk that our actions could influence it unfairly.

You’ve found yourself in a tight spot, frantically searching for an escape. The thought crosses your mind, ‘Is there any way to reshoot it?’ However, no matter which direction we tried, we remained ensnared since the story revolves around Terry Perkins… and he appears in almost every scene, making it impossible to exclude him.

King of Thieves is now available to watch on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.
