MIBR reverse sweet Team Spirit to secure EPL 20 Playoffs spot
As a longtime esports enthusiast who’s witnessed countless matches and upsets, I must admit, this MIBR vs Team Spirit game was a rollercoaster ride! I still remember the embarrassment of watching MIBR lose on Ancient, but their comeback on Nuke was nothing short of spectacular. The nail-biting finish on Anubis, with its overtime drama, had me on the edge of my seat!
MIBR will face off against the winner of G2 and 3DMAX next.
MIBR pulled off a surprise victory over Team Spirit to secure their spot in the ESL Pro League Season 20 Playoffs. The 2-1 victory over Donk and co. means MIBR have secured a top two placement in their group, thereby guaranteeing a position in the playoffs.
MIBR stuns Team Spirit
In the upper bracket semifinals at ESL Pro League Season 20’s Group B, Team Spirit and MIBR squared off, with many expecting an easy win for Team Spirit. However, things took an unexpected turn, resulting in a thrilling series. Against all odds, MIBR emerged victorious across three maps, advancing to the Upper Bracket Final. There, they’ll face either G2 esports or 3DMAX. Regardless of the outcome of the upper bracket final, MIBR has already guaranteed themselves a place in the ESL Pro League Season 20 Playoffs
Initially, MIBR selected Ancient as their teammate. However, despite being their preferred choice, Ancient’s performance turned out to be a disappointing spectacle for MIBR. The scoreline read 2-13 in favor of Ancient, with Donk putting up an exceptional display. Regrettably, no MIBR player was able to score in double digits, which underscored the team’s apparent lack of preparation on this specific map
Nevertheless, they made a remarkable comeback on Nuke, securing eight rounds on the CT side. This 6-0 start on Nuke gave MIBR no trouble in wrapping up the map. In the second map, MIBR clinched a 13-7 victory, tying the series. The entire series was decided by the final map where the two teams engaged in an intense battle that extended into overtime
In the game, both teams maintained their intensity without easing up. The score was tied at 6-6 in the first half. In the second half, MIBR began with a powerful streak of 4-0, which later became 6-2. However, Team Spirit won four consecutive rounds and managed to bring the game to overtime. Although spectators felt that Team Spirit had regained momentum, the final outcome remained uncertain
In the extra period, surprisingly, MIBR seized control and claimed four out of five rounds. MIBR managed to outplay Team Spirit, a team known for housing some of the top players globally. Earlier, Team Spirit had secured a 2-0 win against Wildcard, while MIBR defeated 9z in the Upper Bracket quarterfinals
In the ESL Pro League Season 20, a grand total of 32 teams are participating, each vying for a portion of the massive $750,000 prize money. This tournament is an offline event, and for the group stage, it employs a triple-elimination format
