Mia Threapleton Channels Mom Kate Winslet’s Iconic Oscars Gown for Stunning Cannes Debut

At the 1998 Oscars, it was Kate Winslet’s debut on a significant red carpet as she was just 22 years old. She chose to wear a stunning emerald green dress designed by Givenchy.

Over two decades past, Mia Threapleton, now 24 years old, donned an Oscar De La Renta gown remarkably like the one her mother wore at a similar event – the Cannes Film Festival – yesterday, for the premiere of her movie The Phoenician Scheme.

Mia wore a beautiful, embroidered dress in a vibrant emerald green, mirroring her mother’s likeness. She stood next to the movie’s director, Wes Anderson, and they both looked striking.

In 1998, Kate wore a custom-made gown designed by Alexander McQueen, who was then the head designer at Givenchy. She described it as an intricately embroidered sculpture that wasn’t very comfortable to wear or sit in, but she felt it was worth it because he had made it.

In her upcoming major film debut, Mia has shared with The Sunday Times that she will be as nervous as a trembling leaf at the prestigious Cannes event.

Following her role as a maid in the popular Netflix series “Scoop”, Mia now appears as Liesl in a witty, suspenseful production, featuring an exceptional ensemble that includes Tom Hanks, Bill Murray, and Willem Dafoe.

Kate, who is now 49 years old, had a child with her initial spouse, film director Jim Threapleton. They parted ways in the year 2001.

At the tender age of ten, Mia shared with her mother her aspiration to emulate her and pursue acting as a career.

At fifteen, I took the leap and registered myself on online casting platforms, fueled by my burning ambition to forge my own path in the industry.

She mentioned that Kate has consistently been a strong supporter of her professional journey, all while keeping her informed about the challenges inherent in this line of work.

Mia stated: ‘She was incredibly supportive, yet she consistently highlighted the significant effort required for it.’

This year’s standout film at Cannes, “The Phoenician Scheme,” is unsurprisingly a hit, given it’s directed by the renowned filmmaker Anderson.

In the lead role is Benicio del Toro, portraying the character of Zsa-zsa Korda, a prosperous businessman. He designates his single daughter, a nun, as the exclusive beneficiary of his inheritance.

Yet, as Korda ventures into a fresh endeavor, they quickly find themselves under the crosshairs of devious business magnates, dangerous extremists, and relentless killers.

This version aims to maintain clarity while using more dynamic language to create a sense of tension and danger.

As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement! Mia is the captivating star in Sister Liesl, and guess who she’s sharing the screen with? Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, none other than Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, and the legendary Bill Murray! This dream cast is about to light up the silver screen!

The movie is scheduled for a U.S. premiere on May 30th, and there’s optimism that it might be Wes Anderson’s next major Oscar nominee, given his previous achievement with The Grand Budapest Hotel in 2014.
