Mia McKenna-Bruce shared that after being a responsible young performer on the BBC’s Tracy Beaker Returns, she spent almost ten years enjoying a more carefree lifestyle, using up the money she’d earned from the show.
The 28-year-old actress was on the series until she turned 18. She recently revealed that after dealing with the stress of auditions, she moved to Australia and spent eight years traveling and enjoying life.
Mia explained that her youthful and carefree twenties were very different from the responsibility she felt representing the BBC while playing Tracy Beaker. This meant she had to be much more cautious about what she said and did, especially online.
The actor initially stopped acting after finishing their work on the family show, but they made a comeback in 2019.
She then gained recognition for her performance in the film How To Save Sex, earning her a BAFTA Rising Star Award. This year, she’s appearing in the Netflix series Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials.
Mia, looking back on her childhood acting career, explained that she chose to leave both her agent and acting itself after finishing the show Tracey Beaker Returns. She told The Sunday Times Culture Magazine that the audition process was incredibly stressful, describing it as ‘absolute hell’.

She recalls feeling out of her depth during auditions, especially compared to those who had formal drama training. She struggled to discuss character development or understand scripts, often experiencing intense anxiety before and after each audition. Eventually, her father questioned why she continued to put herself through the stressful process.
The actress left her agent and decided to move to Australia with her close friend, Georgia. What started as a one-month trip turned into an eight-year stay.
She explained how she finally relaxed after years of being cautious, recalling that while filming ‘Tracy Beaker,’ they were always reminded—even off-camera—that they represented the BBC.
Someone once left an offensive comment on my Instagram, and the BBC contacted my agent to ask me to remove it.
Mia will star as Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent in the upcoming Netflix series based on Agatha Christie’s ‘Seven Dials,’ where she investigates a mysterious murder.
Helena Bonham Carter plays Bundle’s mother, Lady Caterham, while Martin Freeman portrays Superintendent Battle, a reserved Scotland Yard detective who is constantly challenged by Bundle’s schemes.
The show opens with a glamorous masquerade ball in the 1920s. We see Gerry Wade charming Bundle on the dance floor, and it looks like he’s about to ask her to marry him when the moment is cut short.
The next morning, a loud and chaotic chorus of alarm clocks from Gerry’s room woke everyone up, much to the annoyance of Lady Caterham.
Bundle was horrified to discover her soon-to-be fiancé dead in his bed, with seven clocks neatly placed on the mantelpiece above it.

Filled with grief and a desire for revenge, she promised her mother she wouldn’t stop until she discovered the truth about Gerry’s death. She was determined to find those responsible.
As a huge fan, I’m so excited to see this classic story brought to life for today’s viewers! Chris Chibnall, the brilliant mind behind Broadchurch, has completely reimagined it, and Chris Sweeney directed it all, also serving as an executive producer. It’s a fantastic combination of talent!
Mia explained to Tudum that a key goal in adapting the story was to make it enjoyable for both those familiar with Agatha Christie and new audiences, while still staying true to the classic mystery elements. She believes they successfully achieved this.
She also described how her character, Bundle, challenged the typical expectations for women of the upper class during the 1920s.
This is the newest TV adaptation of an Agatha Christie novel, continuing a long tradition of BBC versions like “Witness For The Prosecution,” “And Then There Were None,” and last year’s “Towards Zero.”
