As a movie lover who has spent countless hours immersed in stories of justice and redemption, I find myself deeply troubled by this recent development involving Metro Boomin. The allegations against him are grave and harrowing, particularly given the context of his accuser’s tragic loss and the apparent exploitation of her vulnerability.

Metro Boomin is publicly denying accusations that, in 2016, he committed sexual assault and rape on a woman grieving over the loss of her infant son.

Lawyer Lawrence Hinkle II, speaking on behalf of the hip-hop producer and “We Don’t Trust You” artist, has denied the allegations that emerged in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday. In a statement released to The Times on Wednesday, he called it a straightforward attempt at extortion, stating, “This is nothing more than an attempted shakedown.

“He stated that the allegations against his client, Leland Tyler Wayne, are unfounded. Mr. Wayne stopped making payments to her months ago and continues to withhold payment now. However, Mr. Wayne plans to contest these charges in court. Once he has been victorious, he intends to file a counterclaim for malicious prosecution.

Vanessa LeMaistre, Metro Boomin’s accuser who resides in Los Angeles, claims she first encountered the rapper through a mutual friend during a visit to Las Vegas in the spring of 2016. Previously, in February 2016, LeMaistre tragically lost her 9-month-old son due to a rare and fatal illness.

As a die-hard music enthusiast, my friendship with Metro Boomin initially blossomed. The lawsuit claims that following our Las Vegas adventure, I was invited to step foot in his California recording studio and witness him crafting magic. It was a heartwarming moment for me, as music served as a sanctuary amidst the anguish I felt after losing my son. In September 2016, as per the lawsuit, another visit to his studio would mark one of the most harrowing experiences I’ve ever encountered.

As soon as LeMaistre got to the recording studio, it’s claimed in the lawsuit, she was offered a drink of alcohol straight away. Additionally, she had taken half a Xanax pill to cope with her distress about her son’s passing. Metro Boomin and LeMaistre connected over their shared personal sorrows, as the musician was going through a difficult breakup at that time. Following their conversation, Metro Boomin returned to the studio, while LeMaistre lost consciousness, according to the complaint.

As a film critic, I found myself utterly distressed while watching this tale unfold. The narrative revolves around an artist, LeMaistre, who claims to have woken up in a disorienting situation – finding herself on a bed with a Grammy-nominated producer hovering above her, unsure of her location. She further alleges that she lost consciousness again, only to regain it and discover Metro Boomin engaging in an act without her consent. The complaint asserts that LeMaistre was incapable of giving consent during this alleged incident, painting a deeply troubling picture.

“Wayne’s conduct without question constituted rape and sexual assault,” the lawsuit added.

Later on, LeMaistre found herself waking up once more, only to discover that she and Metro Boomin were residing in a hotel room situated in Beverly Hills. To her surprise, she hadn’t been aware of their transportation to the hotel. Subsequently told to pack her things, weeks following an alleged incident, LeMaistre discovered she was pregnant. She firmly believed this pregnancy was a consequence of the rape, as stated in the lawsuit. In November 2016, she underwent an abortion.

Apart from describing the alleged rape incident, the lawsuit also mentions explicit rap songs and deleted tweets by Metro Boomin containing misogynistic language, drug references, and sexual content. The song “Rap Saved Me,” produced by Metro Boomin and performed by 21 Savage and Offset in 2017, includes lyrics about a woman taking Xanax and fainting, which left LeMaistre feeling disturbed and caused additional trauma, as the lawsuit claims.

The complaint also accuses Metro Boomin of “excessive codeine use,” which allegedly made his behavior “much less predictable.”

I’ve been struggling to piece myself back together following the overwhelming trauma inflicted upon me by someone I once considered a friend, Wayne, who unfortunately became my darkest fear instead. This is as per the claims in the lawsuit.

LeMaistre has filed a lawsuit that includes charges of battery, sexual battery, and additional claims. She’s asking for an undisclosed sum as compensation for “extreme mental anguish,” along with compensatory damages, court costs, and legal expenses. Furthermore, she desires a trial by a jury.

In a statement made on Wednesday, Metro Boomin’s lawyer, Michael J. Willemin, told The Times that the rap producer has constructed a thriving career using lyrics and social media content that are not only disrespectful but also make clear his desire to cause harm to women. He emphasized that such words have significant consequences, and it’s past time for him to face accountability for his deceptive strategies and inappropriate actions.

He added: “Making defamatory remarks is not going to help Metro Boomin’s cause and we look forward to proving Ms. LeMaistre’s claims in court and ultimately before a jury.”
