Metaphor: Refantazio Director Avoids Fan Feedback for His Mental Health

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen the industry evolve and adapt to its audience. Listening to fan feedback has always been a contentious topic for developers, striking a delicate balance between staying true to their vision and catering to the needs of the players.

In a recent conversation, ReFantazio’s and Persona director, Katsura Hashino, discussed the importance of taking fan input into account, but emphasized that he generally steers clear of it to preserve his psychological well-being.

In the latest edition of Famitsu magazine, Hashino conversed with the creator of Silent Hill, Keiichiro Toyama, as reported by Automaton. Toyama shared that his methodology varies slightly from others.

Indeed, I do scrutinize certain aspects, particularly immediately after a launch. However, please note that I don’t have the ability to make changes based on my observations. When I need information, I gather it all at once as a quick lookup, because continuously analyzing reactions might not be beneficial for one’s mental well-being.

In a recent conversation, Toyama – a member of Bokeh Games, the team behind the upcoming horror game Slitterhead – shared his approach towards handling situations. Previously, he was less receptive to feedback from fans, but currently, he is much more open to it. It seems that he values hearing diverse perspectives and actively considers opinions that he finds beneficial.

It’s a captivating role-playing game in the fantasy genre that is brimming with warmth.
