While touring Australia, Metallica’s James Hetfield took time to visit a memorial dedicated to the band’s first bassist, Cliff Burton.
The band behind the hit song ‘Enter Sandman’ is in Melbourne and will be performing at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.
Before his performance, James went to Melbourne’s famous AC/DC Lane to see a mural of the band’s original bassist being finished.
I was so thrilled to see the photo on Metallica’s Instagram! It showed James standing right next to that incredible mural, alongside one of the artists who made it. It was a really cool moment and a great way to showcase the amazing artwork.
The mural depicted Cliff with a dramatic lightning storm behind him. The artists, Maid (known for Liquid Pastels) and Ling, signed their work using the famous font of the band Metallica.
‘Visiting an old friend in Melbourne,’ James captioned the image. ‘Fantastic mural.’
As someone who’s followed the music scene for years, I always point to Cliff Burton as a true innovator. He was one of the original members of Metallica, and his bass playing was absolutely foundational to their first three albums: Kill ‘Em All, Ride The Lightning, and the incredible Master of Puppets. Those albums really defined their early sound, and Cliff was a huge part of that.

He was tragically killed in 1986 in a bus crash in Sweden while the band were on tour.
After the original bassist left, Jason Newsted took over, playing with the band until 2001. Robert Trujillo then joined in 2003 and has been playing bass ever since.
The post was met with a flurry of comments from Metallica fans, with many praising the artwork.
A fan commented that Metallica continues to beautifully honor a deceased bandmate, even after almost 40 years.
‘I truly respect them because they reminded us how important friendship is.’
A trip to AC/DC lane would not be complete without paying homage to iconic frontman Bon Scott.
James followed through with his plan, posting a photo of himself playfully making the ‘devil horns’ hand gesture towards a statue of the Australian rock icon located in AC/DC Lane.
Fans expressed their adoration for James, with one saying he’s relatable and ‘just one of us.’ Another fan simply commented, ‘Legends recognizing legends.’

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the buzz around the recent reports following the metal band’s Perth concert. Apparently, some fans have expressed serious concerns about potential drug use they witnessed during the show, and it’s definitely sparked a lot of conversation.
After the show, many fans shared their disappointment online about reports of others using drugs in the audience.
Okay, so I’ve been scouring the internet, and it’s insane. People on Reddit are saying they actually saw fans doing drugs during the show! Like, meth, weed, even DMT – seriously, DMT! It’s just…wow. I can’t believe people were getting that wild at our show. It’s kinda scary, but also…adds to the legend, you know?
One concertgoer was upset with someone who was smoking methamphetamine at the Metallica show, writing, ‘Seriously, get a life.’
Someone is extremely angry and is telling another person to be considerate of the many families and individuals, including children, who are simply trying to have a pleasant evening. They are using highly offensive language to express their frustration.
A second claimed that they had also witnessed concertgoers imbibing illicit drugs.
According to witnesses, a woman in the general admission area lit a pipe in front of the band Metallica, which quickly attracted a group of people who asked to share it.
Another person agreed, stating that the methamphetamine problem in Perth is severe and using it at a crowded concert endangers everyone nearby, which they found deeply upsetting.

Meanwhile, two men were charged after committing a dangerous act at the anticipated gig.
Two men, aged 20 and 23, reportedly climbed the central tower of the stadium while the band was performing. The 20-year-old is from Carey Park, a suburb of Bunbury, and the 23-year-old is from Australind.
The two men are facing charges for trespassing and will need to go to court at a later time.
