Meryl Streep breaks silence on Martin Short romance rumors – after the stars held hands on red carpet
As an avid fan and follower of Hollywood for decades now, I have seen my fair share of rumors and speculations about celebrities’ personal lives. However, when it comes to Meryl Streep and Martin Short, their friendship has always been a beacon of genuine camaraderie in an industry often fraught with gossip.
Meryl Streep and Martin Short have insisted their relationship is platonic.
But rumors of a romance between the actors and longtime friends — Meryl, 75, and Martin, 74 — persist.
At an event for the Hulu series “And Only Murders in the Building” on August 24, the co-stars drew attention by holding hands.
Following the event, a source shared with Page Six that their relationship appears to be deeper than just a show for entertainment. There seems to be genuine feelings between them.
However, a representative for Streep told the publication: ‘They are just friends.’

Short gushed about his admiration for Streep when asked by Extra about their off-camera friendship.
He clarified that, over time, a friendship blossoms when you collaborate with someone and hold affection for them.
Following speculation about their romantic relationship in January, it was clarified by a representative of the Addams Family star that they are simply close friends with no romantic involvement.
Back in October, I learned with a heavy heart that my beloved Meryl Streep and her partner Don Gummer parted ways six years prior to that. It’s still hard for me to accept.
They are parents to Henry, 44, Mamie, 41, Grace, 38, and Louisa, 33.
Martin Short’s wife, Nancy Dolman, passed away from ovarian cancer in 2010, following 30 years of a happy marriage together.
The couple had three kids — Katherine, 40, Oliver, 38, and Henry, 35.
In Season Three, Meryl became a part of the cast for ‘Only Murders in the Building’, reestablishing her on-screen association with Martin.

Only Murders in the Building season four will debut on Hulu August 27.
A trailer for the upcoming installment of the series premiered earlier this month.
In the newest development, characters Charles (portrayed by Steve Martin), Mabel (played by Selena Gomez), and Oliver (brought to life by Martin Short) embark on a journey from New York City to Hollywood, with the aim of creating a film that recounts the origins of their podcast.
Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria and Zach Galifianakis will play the detective trio in the movie.
But the three pals experience several surprises once they land in Southern California.
