Mermicorno: Starfall season 2 episode 9 and 10 recap

Two fresh Mermicornos have become part of our team, yet there’s a question about Sawtooth. In the episodes 9 and 10 of Mermicorno: Starfall, Astra invites Rip Tide and Sunsprite, while Sawtooth unearths his creative prowess and elects to join the Mermicornos.

Mermicorno: Starfall episode 9 recap: Kraken Down

The team divides; Astra, Gwen, and Kameko set off in search of Rip Tide and Sunsprite, while Nautique, Squishella, and Valentina remain at the Mermicorno kingdom. Once more, Gwen cautions Astra about Sawtooth, but Astra disregards her advice again.

They discover Rip Tide and Sunsprite as they hunt for a hidden treasure chest within a cave; however, it’s Cap’n Cutter and her band of pirate stingrays who come across them instead. Fortunately, Astra, Gwen, and Kameko show up to lend a hand, enabling Rip Tide and Sunsprite to flee aboard their colossal vessel, the SS Cool Boat.

Gwen finds it bothersome that they’re not appreciated for their rescue efforts. Rip Tide and Sunsprite, the jovial and nonsensical Rainbowish duo, share that they entered the ocean simultaneously during the Starfall, emphasizing the importance of sticking together.

Unruffled and adaptable, they continue their journey peacefully until word reaches them about Blackfin’s hidden treasure. Solving a chain of puzzles to claim it would establish them as legends of the ocean. The final clue in their possession is the enigmatic Kraken.

In order to gain approval from Rip Tide and Sunsprite and join their quest to rescue Dark Pearl and halt Ika’s actions, Astra decides to act nonchalant and free-spirited. However, this behavior irritates Gwen, who has assumed the role of the responsible one, as she is always navigating the ship and even manages to prevent Kameko from falling overboard.

The casual demeanor of Rip Tide and Sunsprite sometimes borders on recklessness, yet Gwen’s warnings fall on deaf ears in Astra. This stubbornness results in friction between them. Upon reaching the Kraken’s position, they attempt to snatch the treasure chest from its head instead.

However, if Astra plays around excessively, they all find themselves being consumed. Just as it seems they’re about to be devoured, Astra admits that she was only pretending to be cool in order to gain their approval.

Apart from recognizing her excellent organizational skills, it becomes clear that she’s quick-witted too – a trait that helps them evade danger, albeit at the cost of leaving the treasure untouched. Astra shares their mission with Rip Tide and Sunsprite, and both of them jump on board without hesitation!

As Squishella watches, she starts to feel envious of the bond between Nautique and Valentina, noticing their shared interests. They collaborate to explore the abilities of their pearl talismans, with a fateful twist: when Squishella tries one, it inadvertently causes everything to flip over.

As they progress, she accidentally lets go of the crucial pearl that’s essential for their restoration. They then affix their tails to the floor using adhesive tape and start examining each pearl talisman thoroughly.

In their harmonious collaboration, Nautique and Valentina find success once more, but this triggers another fit of anger from Squishella who asserts she has discovered the perfect pearl. Instead, the pearl dwindles, leaving them smaller, and despite Squishella’s best efforts to repair it with her creative prowess, the pearl shatters beyond repair.

Eventually, Squishella admits that she has been hiding the fact that Nautique is supposed to be her closest friend, and she’s concerned that Valentina might take her place since they seem to have more similarities with him. Nautique then comforts Squishella by explaining that it’s precisely their differences that make them such great friends.

Because of its tiny stature, Squishella locates the suitable pearl amulet, as indicated by jelly residue on her hooves. After resolving their initial problem, she employs a magnifying glass to enhance her creative energy, reconstructing the shattered pearl fragments and restoring them to their original size.

Mermicorno: Starfall episode 10 recap: Song of Sawtooth

In the attempt by Sawtooth to conceal Shelly the crab from capture, Ika has declared his control over Octokyo. He delegates a task to Sawtooth: to eliminate all remaining creativity and gather the rebellious elements.

As a result, Sawtooth assumes the role of the Creativity Director. Consequently, Sawtooth takes steps to suppress creativity, yet experiences persistent feelings of guilt over this action.

He chases the melodies of music through the sewer system in search of Penny, the vocalist for Pop Star Princess, strumming her guitar. Enraged, Sawtooth snatches the instrument from her, aiming to cause fright.

However, Penny remains unfazed. Upon Sawtooth’s return to Ika’s lair in Octokitty City, he inadvertently includes a guitar among the collection of instruments after accidentally touching an electric one.

1. Both him and Shelly are taken aback when they come to understand that his inherent talent lies in music. A noise triggers Ika, making Sawtooth freeze instantaneously, yet Dark Pearl remains skeptical, questioning the authenticity behind his luminescent green hooves.

2. The realization hits him and Shelly hard: his unique gift is found in music. A certain sound catches Ika’s attention, causing Sawtooth to immediately freeze, but Dark Pearl doubts him, casting suspicion on the unusual glow of his green hooves.

3. They are both startled when they figure out that he excels at creating music. A signal sets off Ika, making Sawtooth stop suddenly, while Dark Pearl remains unconvinced and wary of the mysterious light emanating from his green hooves.

4. It’s a shock to them both as they discover that he is musically inclined. A noise sparks Ika, causing Sawtooth to freeze on the spot, but Dark Pearl remains untrusting, doubting the authenticity of his glowing green hooves.

5. The revelation leaves him and Shelly surprised: his specialty lies in music. A sound triggers Ika, making Sawtooth halt abruptly, while Dark Pearl questions the veracity behind his luminescent green hooves’ glow.

Afterward, Sawtooth encounters Penny and attributes the catchy melody she was humming as the reason it’s been stuck in his mind. Recognizing a fellow musician, she realizes he should compose his own tune to alleviate this situation.

Sawtooth refutes the claim and departs, but finds himself tossing and turning without rest. Exhausted, he surrenders and returns to Penny. The pair then agree to join forces.

She will assist him in composing a tune, and in exchange, he will lend her his guitar. However, as he reaches for the guitar amidst the other musical instruments, it accidentally slips from his grasp, causing a racket that draws Ika’s attention.

In the location where Ika purchases it, Sawtooth is deceitful, whereas Dark Pearl remains truthful. For several days, Sawtooth and Penny collaborate so closely that Ika starts questioning why there haven’t been more rebels apprehended or less creativity stifled.

In a private conversation with Penny, Sawtooth shares that upon reaching the ocean at the time of starfall, he had forgotten his past. The very first creature he encountered was Ika, who misled him about the potentially harmful nature of the Mermicornos.

Ika permits Sawtooth to remain working for him, provided that he avoids any creative endeavors. This is why Sawtooth got his name.

Sawtooth admitted that his original name is Sharkicorno and that he had close relationships with the Mermicornos back then. However, he feels strongly attached to Ika because he’s been the only friend he’s made since arriving here. Despite Ika getting upset whenever Sawtooth attempted something even slightly musical, he still values their friendship.

In a simpler way, Penny makes it clear to Sawtooth that Ika is not his friend because Ika tried to prevent Sawtooth from being true to himself. Later, when Ika and Dark Pearl discover Sawtooth with Penny in the sewers, Ika believes Sawtooth intended to hand Penny over to him.

In a betrayal, Sawtooth deceives Penny, leading to her capture with plans to transform her into a Squidian the following morning in Octokyo. The aim is to prevent further uprisings. Eventually, Sawtooth receives a new position of respect from Ika, but he chooses to forsake it all by liberating both Penny and Shelly.

When Ika discovers that Sawtooth has broken free, he dispatches his Squidians, who ultimately fail against both Sawtooth and Penny’s melody. In response, Penny chooses to search for a secure refuge, while Sawtooth plans to locate the Mermicornos instead.

Angered by Sawtooth’s betrayal, Ika turns every citizen of Octokyo into a Squidian.

Mermicorno: Starfall season 2 episodes 9 and 10 review

Hooray! At last, the enigmatic creature known as Sawtooth or Sharkicorno has freed itself from Ika and is joining our Mermicornos! I’ve been eagerly anticipating this moment, and I must say, his tale did not disappoint.

In Episodes 9 and 10, the characters Astra, Squishella, and Sawtooth each faced a challenge common to many children, teenagers, and even grown-ups: the struggle of being true to oneself. After all, isn’t acceptance something that everyone yearns for?

Through acceptance, you discover the true nature of those who stand by you. As Mermicorno: Starfall so eloquently puts it, genuine friendships are forged in kindness, trust, and mutual respect.

It’s interesting to note that Ika recognizes Sawtooth’s worth and potential only after they completed horrifying tasks, rather than appreciating him as a talented musician earlier on, much like Gwen’s experience.

Ika realizes Sawtooth’s value and potential only when they complete scary tasks, not when he was being creative, similar to what happened with Gwen.

One concern that often arises when seeking acceptance is the worry of losing the companions you’ve already made. Could it be that they might cease to be your friend due to our differences?

Is there a possibility that our friendship may end due to my unwillingness to comply with their wishes? Could it be that our friendship might dissolve because they value conformity over accepting my unique traits and characteristics?

Cultivating enduring friendships is an extraordinary, influential power in its own right, and it’s delightful to witness children’s programs portray friendships authentically and sensibly. Not every friendship lasts a lifetime, but that doesn’t make the act of making friends any less valuable.

As we approach the final three episodes, will our Mermicornos, aided by Sharkicorno, manage to retrieve Dark Pearl, vanquish Ika, and protect the ocean? I fear that given all the unresolved plots, there may not be enough time left to address everything adequately.

If given the chance, there remains an opportunity for Season 3. However, it’s important to note that television series, including children’s content, sometimes suffer from premature and unjust cancellations.

Reflecting on “Mermicorno: Starfall”, an exceptional piece of children’s media that I’ve savored for years, I can’t help but feel disheartened at the thought of its potential squandering. Instead, let’s work towards wrapping up the tale in a triumphant and optimistic manner!
