But while they discover more about their past, Ika Inkblot sets his sights on Octokyo.
Mermicorno: Starfall episode 7 recap: Memories of a Mermicorno
Our band of heroes has regrouped and, at last, discovered the remnants of the Mermicorno realm. Upon their arrival, the Mermicornos vividly remember the day when Ika Inkblot appeared, yearning for the cosmic gateway to harness their power and annihilate all creativity.
In this location, we meet three freshly introduced beings called Mermicornos: Rip Tide, Sunsprite, and Valentina. We also discover that these unique creatures were brought to life by the combined energies of the constellations Pisces and Pegasus. The most astonishing fact unveiled is that Astra was actually Princess Hanna all along!
Struggling to comprehend reality, Astra refuses to believe it, which in turn ignites her artistic prowess. This burst of creativity results in her sculpting a statue that mirrors her own image. Intended for defense of the realm, this statue turns aggressive and assaults the gathering.
Following the statue’s downfall, there’s another flashback sequence showing Astra attempting to harness the orbs to forge a potent pearl while her fellow Mermicornos engage Ika and his Squidians in combat. However, Astra struggles with her haste, makes mistakes, and ultimately fails when she and her companions are apprehended, paving the way for Ika to pass through the gateway.
Moving forward, Gwen and Astra engage in a sincere discussion about the current state of affairs. Gwen subtly encourages Astra by reminding her of her power and talents. It turns out that as they talk, the statue miraculously reforms itself.
As they were avoiding it, they got a call from Queen Pearl concerning Ika’s assault on Octokyo. A second time, memories resurfaced of Sawtooth, a hybrid of Shark and Unicorn, rescuing them, and collectively they stepped through the portal.
In the midst of harnessing the star’s energy, Ika finds it impossible to control its potency. With an immense amount of effort and creativity, Astra produces a magnificent pearl that overpowers Ika, giving birth to a new character named Baby Pearl Girl.
Pearl Girl is revealed to be the ultimate talisman. The blast destroys the gateway.
With renewed self-assurance, Astra triumphs over the statue by inventing and employing a robot. The revised objective for the Mermicornos is to locate the remaining three members of their kind.
Astra conquers the statue with her newfound courage, utilizing a robot she has made. Now, the task of the Mermicornos is to search for the other three of their kind.
And one more:
With fresh confidence coursing through her veins, Astra vanquishes the statue by constructing and employing a robot. The latest mission assigned to the Mermicornos is to seek out the remaining three members of their group.
Regarding Dark Pearl, her role now is being utilized as a source of power for Ika, who persists in his destructive rule. However, she yearns for independence to unleash her full potential for evil creativity, but Ika consistently denies this freedom.
Mermicorno: Starfall episode 8 recap: No Place Like Home
In the hunt for Rip Tide, Sunsprite, and Valentina, Gwen advises Astra to look for Sawtooth as well. Yet, Astra prefers to steer clear of discovering his whereabouts.
Meanwhile, Sawtooth has been joining Ika’s Squidians in their assault on Octokyo, giving off vibes of discontent and doubt concerning the devastation of creativity. This presents an ideal moment for Dark Pearl to cause earthquakes, opening up a fresh crack that’s headed straight towards our unaware Mermicornos.
Fortunately for our heroes, the quest to find three more Mermicornos begins smoothly since Valentina has been concealed within the royal library. She is a red and pink Mermicorno with an affinity for literature and composition, boasting three reading corners, hot cocoa, and has remained indoors for two years due to her apprehension of the ocean…(I must admit, I find myself resonating with Valentina; she may very well be my spirit animal).
For Astra, crafting tales is her source of creativity, and her companions yearn to listen to them. Yet, they lack the flair and originality found in Astra’s stories because they haven’t ventured beyond the library. To encourage her to conquer her fears, they decide to pen their own books, based on their real-life escapades, but keeping aspects that might frighten her out of the narratives.
Gwen voices her dissent towards this method, but in turn, each Mermicorno gets a chance to act, commencing with Nautique. He employs his past library ejection incident alongside Kameko as a catalyst for a dark mystery surrounding the person responsible for jamming the books. However, just when things are getting interesting, Astra interjects, pointing out Valentina’s growing apprehension.
Once more, Gwen feels irritated towards Astra, desiring to openly discuss the hazards lurking within the ocean with Valentina. The narrative then unfolds about Squishella, a pampered and glamorous royal princess who not only has servants at her beck and call but is also capable of defending her people against a monstrous sea creature.
Astra interjects once more, giving Kameko the chance to proceed with her narrative about a superhero safeguarding Octokyo against Sawtooth. Exasperated, Gwen finally reveals the truth to Valentina at this juncture.

Astra jumps in for a moment, allowing Kameko to share her tale of a hero who protects Octokyo from Sawtooth’s threats. Growing tired, Gwen confides in Valentina about the secret she had kept until then.
Distraught, as a cinema enthusiast, I find myself ushered out of the library by Valentina, with the ominous tremors from Dark Pearl shaking the realm relentlessly outside. Concerned for Valentina’s safety, I venture back into the library, only to find it on the brink of collapse due to the earthquakes.
Despite her lingering fear, Valentina discovers her courage by jotting down their escape plan. In unity, they make their escape via a gateway into the courtyard.
Now, braver than ever before Valentina is ready to leave with the Mermicornos.
Mermicorno: Starfall season 2 episodes 7 and 8 review
Yay, more Mermicornos have arrived! I’m very excited to see what Rip Tide and Sunsprite are like!
Initially, Valentina seems quite relatable to me, and I find myself drawn to her. At the same time, I recognize the resemblance. On the other hand, although Astra shares some similarities with me, Valentina appears more alike.
It was heartwarmingly tenacious of the Mermicornos to assist her in conquering her apprehensions, despite their differing opinions on the approach. The predicament is relatable as it underscores the value of confronting your fears, yet often the process can be more manageable when you have a companion alongside you.
Let me rewind for a moment, I found it delightful that we uncovered additional information about the Mermicorno realm, the identity of Princess Hanna, and the origin story of Pearl Girl. As a mother of two young children, Pearl Girl’s creation especially resonated with me emotionally.
Up until now, these episodes from season 2 have been my absolute favorites due to the rich exploration of the Mermicorno lore and the introduction of shy Valentina. Frankly, I can’t help but root for Sawtooth to break free from Ika and join the Mermicornos instead!
In reality, Ika is approaching the last star from the starfall rather perilously, and it leaves me concerned about possible repercussions for Mother Pearl, Barb, and the inhabitants of the sea. The series Mermicorno: Starfall hasn’t hesitated to depict the villains triumphing, but I find it hard to imagine a more disastrous outcome unfolding.
