Mephisto’s Next Move: 8 MCU Projects He Could Haunt!
Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Marvel’s Ironheart
In the Ironheart series, we’ve seen Mephisto for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The intrigue lies in predicting where he may appear next. Known as a supernatural villain who revels in making pacts and collecting souls, Mephisto exploits human fears by masquerading as the Devil. After striking a sinister bargain with Riri Williams at the conclusion of her series, there’s speculation that the MCU’s Mephisto is merely beginning his reign as the demon lord.
In the finale of Ironheart, it was revealed that Mephisto, the mysterious benefactor, bestowed Parker Robbins with his magical hood, portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen. After Riri overpowered Parker and claimed the hood, Mephisto started targeting her, striking a deal to resurrect her late friend Natalie. This suggests that Mephisto’s manipulations extend far and wide, implying there are numerous upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects where he might make an appearance.
8. Wonder Man
Mephisto and Simon Williams Have A History
In late 2025, we can expect the introduction of Simon Williams, also known as Wonder Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II portrays this charismatic character who’s an actor with extraordinary abilities, trying to land the lead role in a superhero TV show within the MCU. Alongside Sir Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery, the fictional Mandarin of the MCU, Wonder Man promises to offer a comical glimpse into the behind-the-scenes world of filmmaking within the Marvel Universe itself.
In my perspective as a movie critic, it’s important to note that Simon Williams has a past connection with the enigmatic character Mephisto in the comic book world. Interestingly enough, his brother and he were once drawn into a complex web spun by none other than Mephisto’s son, Blackheart, defying their demonic patriarch. Moreover, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to envision Mephisto using his cunning charm to offer Williams fame, fortune, and perhaps even a bargain that could change the course of his life.
7. Vision Quest
Seeking The Souls of Billy and Tommy Maximoff?
The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series, titled “Vision Quest,” features Paul Bettany’s altered character, White Vision, who was last seen in 2021’s “WandaVision.” Additionally, James Spader will reappear in the MCU as the villainous Ultron.
In the potential scenario for VisionQuest, it’s plausible that Tommy Maximoff (Speed) could make an appearance. This is likely due to the fact that Wiccan found his twin brother’s lost soul in Agatha All Along and placed it into a new body. Given that Billy has breached the boundaries of life and death, there’s a chance that Mephisto could attempt to seize the Maximoff brothers’ souls. This is reasonable considering Mephisto has notable comic book ties to Tommy and Billy’s extraordinary existence, a connection that the MCU might choose to explore.
6. Spider-Man: Brand New Day
One More Day/Brand New Day
It’s been announced that the title of the next MCU Spider-Man film featuring Tom Holland is “Brand New Day.” This intriguing title suggests a fresh beginning for the character, marking the start of a new trilogy. However,
After the Civil War, Aunt May was critically wounded and on the brink of death. At this point, Mephisto offered Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson a deal: he would save Aunt May’s life if they agreed to their marriage. This event unfolded in the controversial storyline known as “One More Day.” The goal behind this narrative was essentially to give Spider-Man a soft reboot, erasing his years of marriage and teaching job, returning him to his earlier state where he grappled with finding harmony in his life.
In essence, following the narrative shift for Spider-Man known as “Brand New Day,” it’s not out of the question that Mephisto might appear in the upcoming fourth Spider-Man film. Given Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, recently lost Aunt May in “No Way Home,” the allure of perhaps reclaiming her and a fresh reality could be quite compelling.
It’s been whispered around that I might be taking on the role of Mayday Parker, the daughter of Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson from an alternate universe. In the comics, Mayday was a significant character who almost spelled doom for Spider-Man. With a glimpse into the future showing that she could potentially lead to his downfall, Mephisto attempted to thwart her very existence in the first place.
5. Avengers: Doomsday
A Connection With Doctor Doom?
In the final chapter of the Multiverse Saga, the film titled Avengers: Doomsday will introduce Doctor Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. Although specifics about the character have not been disclosed, it’s reasonable to speculate that he might possess a blend of scientific prowess and magical abilities, similar to his comic book counterpart. If this is the case, it’s worth mentioning that Mephisto plays a crucial role in Doctor Doom’s powerful sorcery background.
In the story, it was Mephisto who took Victor von Doom’s mother’s soul when he was still young. For many years, Doom found himself confined within Mephisto’s realm. With unyielding resolve, he devoted himself to learning magic, constantly trying to release her. Eventually, he managed to do so only after forcing Doctor Strange to assist him. It leaves one pondering if Mephisto could have a part in the backstory of Doctor Doom within the MCU.
4. Avengers: Secret Wars
Seeing Up The MCU’s Post-Multiverse Future?
In the grand finale of the Multiverse Saga, Avengers: Secret Wars, we’re anticipating an unprecedented clash of realities. Given this epic scale, it’s not unimaginable that the villain Mephisto could make an appearance in the 2027 film. In fact, he might just pop up in a post-credit scene, hinting at future tales within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
3. Armor Wars
Paying Off Ironheart’s Cliffhanger?
At first glance, it might seem unlikely for a character like Mephisto, a supernatural villain, to appear in a series like Armor Wars. However, similar thoughts were held about Ironheart. Given that Armor Wars is currently under development with Don Cheadle’s War Machine, it’s plausible that Riri Williams’ story could continue within this project rather than an Ironheart season 2. This could potentially involve her entering into a dark agreement with Mephisto.
2. Blade
Continuing to Explore The MCU’s Supernatural Side
It’s rumored that Mahershala Ali’s Blade film is still in development. If it comes to fruition, this vampire-slaying movie could potentially pave the way for introducing Mephisto more significantly into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This would be particularly likely if Marvel Studios intends to explore the supernatural elements more extensively within the MCU. Blade might mark the beginning of a storyline where Sacha Baron Cohen’s Mephisto becomes a formidable, overarching supernatural villain.
1. Rumored MCU Projects
(Young Avengers/Strange Academy/Ghost Rider)
Additionally, there are numerous anticipated and speculated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects featuring Mephisto that have not yet been officially verified or approved. Among these is the presumed Young Avengers/Champions project that the MCU has been gradually developing. Given that a Champions comic book storyline had Mephisto striking deals with various young superheroes, and even Blackheart taking control over Riri Williams, it wouldn’t be surprising if Mephisto made an appearance in these upcoming projects.
During the reported halt in development, “Strange Academy” might just be an ideal fit for Mephisto. The comic series adaptation featuring the Sorcerer Supreme establishing his own school for magical prodigies, as suggested by several elements in “Ironheart”, has piqued interest among Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans. Moreover, many hope to witness a supernatural Midnight Sons project, potentially starring Doctor Strange, Blade, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, and others, in the realm of the supernatural.
Indeed, for a successful MCU Ghost Rider venture, it’s crucial to incorporate Mephisto. This demonic overlord is the one who imprisons the Spirit of Vengeance within Johnny Blaze. In essence, Sacha Baron Cohen as Mephisto could potentially play a pivotal antagonistic role in the MCU. Hopefully, his character won’t be overlooked and will make appearances in numerous upcoming MCU productions.
