Member of major girl group announces SHOCK hiatus… and fans are left devastated

A popular singer from a well-known girl group has unexpectedly announced they’re taking a break, which has deeply upset their fans.

Manon Bannerman, a member of the group Katseye, is taking a break to prioritize her health.

The 23-year-old singer is now part of the group that officially debuted in 2023 with support from Hybe and Geffen Records. Other members include Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza, and Yoonchae Jeung.

The group announced on Friday that Manon will be taking a break from activities to prioritize her health and wellbeing, following open and honest discussions.

We completely agree with this decision. KATSEYE will always be there for each other and for our incredible fans.

The remaining team members will keep working as planned, and we anticipate reuniting when circumstances allow.

The message ended with a thank you to their fans, called ‘EYEKONS,’ for their ongoing support, patience, and understanding. It was signed ‘HxG’.

Fans jumped to social media to share their thoughts on Bannerman’s hiatus from the group.

Someone posted on X, expressing sadness that Katseye, a popular streamer known for both her singing and appearance, has stopped streaming and hoping she’ll come back.

It’s just heartbreaking to see everyone reacting to the news. One person wrote a really sweet message saying ‘Get well soon Manon, I love you, please come back,’ and honestly, that’s how we all feel. Another X user perfectly captured it – they said they’re feeling sick to their stomach and that Manon deserves all the time she needs to rest and recover. We’re all going to be here supporting her, every single day.

A fan wrote, “We’re so happy to see you all supporting each other and making the right choice for Manon’s health. We love you, Manon! We’ll be here for you when you’re ready.”

Someone on X posted a supportive message to Manon, saying they should take as much time as needed to heal and that their fans, the ‘eyekons,’ send a lot of love.

People sent messages of support for Manon, wishing her a speedy recovery and sending their love. One person wrote, ‘Wishing you the best and a full recovery, we love you so much!’ Another simply said, ‘Get well soon, Manon, and take all the time you need – we love you!’

This girl group from Los Angeles came together in 2023 while competing on the reality show, Dream Academy.

The group’s first single was released in 2024 titled Debut followed by another called Touch.

That same year, Katseye dropped their EP SIS (Soft Is Strong).

In April 2025, the band released a new single called “Gnarly,” which is included on their second EP, “Beautiful Chaos.”

“Gabriela” is a track from the new EP that peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The track was nominated at the 2026 Grammy Awards for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

The group most recently performed with all six members at the awards ceremony, delivering a lively rendition of their song, Gnarly, for the audience and their fans.

Last November, Katseye began The Beautiful Chaos Tour, which concluded in Mexico City on December 16th.

I was really glad to hear that the group took steps to support each other’s well-being. They shared that they’d brought in a therapist to help them cope with all the attention – and unfortunately, the really scary stuff like death threats – that came with being in the public eye. It’s good they’re prioritizing their mental health!

Raj admitted to Rolling Stone that while he tries to dismiss the impact of online hate, receiving a thousand death threats is deeply upsetting, even if he doesn’t believe they’re real. He described it as a shocking and weighty experience.

Bannerman added that it is ‘very terrorizing on the mind.’

The singer previously shared thoughts with the Associated Press about how diverse the group was.

Viewers want to see diversity reflected in media, like on television and in advertising. Bannerman hopes industry leaders recognize this demand and actively include more diverse representation, as it’s clearly effective.

In an interview with Hypebae, she also mentioned the group is very proud of it and feels incredibly thankful.

I often mention how wonderful it is that our cast is so diverse – it means any girl can see someone on screen who looks like her and relate to them.

The performer shared, ‘We all dreamed of something like this when we were younger, so it’s incredible to actually experience it and be someone kids can look up to. We’re thrilled!’

As many of you know, Bannerman recently stepped back from Katseye. The official word is that this is just a temporary leave, but honestly, there’s no clear timeline for when we can expect to see her back. It’s a waiting game right now, and I know a lot of fans are hoping for a speedy return!
