Melissa Rivers saves late mother Joan Rivers’ Emmy before losing home in devastating LA fires
Melissa Rivers disclosed that she managed to preserve her mother Joan River’s Emmy award prior to losing their Pacific Palisades residence during the destructive Los Angeles wildfires.
56-year-old television host shared her feelings with CNN on Wednesday, speaking candidly about the devastating loss of her house. She also remarked that the once prosperous town appears to have vanished completely from existence.
People living in that area, such as Tina Knowles, Anthony Hopkins, Candy Spelling, Miles Teller, Adam Brody, and Leighton Meester, are among those who unfortunately had their homes consumed by the fierce fires.
In 1990, Joan Rivers, who sadly passed away in 2014 at the age of 81, was honored with a Daytime Emmy Award for Exceptional Talk Show Host for her show, “The Joan Rivers Show.
Melissa shared that she maintained a list in her mind for essentials. She ensured we had passports, birth certificates, medications, and appropriate clothes.
Before getting evacuated from her home in the Palisades, she remembered going out shopping for clothes. Suddenly, it struck her that they only had what they were wearing at that moment.
I picked up both dog and cat food since luckily, my workplace (which happened to be at home) had some supplies available, so I took whatever was handy.
In terms of my own circumstances, it appears that everything linked to my family’s past is now concluded, Rivers expressed with deep emotion.
She stated, ‘Completely truthfully, I took my mom’s Emmy award, a picture of my father, and a sketch my mother made of myself and my child…’
Later on, Melissa suggested, ‘It’s crucial to keep all essential documents together – your papers, IDs, and passport. It’s a good thing we’re organized that way.’
The TV personality expressed that, ‘It’s amazing what you grab. It’s amazing what you take.’
She mentioned that she took a drawing her mother had made, as she knew she could locate the photographs. [However, a drawing like that] She cannot replicate.
The woman with one child went on to say, “However, my heart is shattered, not only for me, but for all those facing similar struggles.” She then described the town of Pacific Palisades as having been ‘erased or obliterated from existence.’
On a Wednesday, Melissa shared with her Instagram audience that she had unfortunately lost her residence.
She wrote, ‘My family and I have safely evacuated, and we are deeply grateful to be unharmed.’
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m utterly crushed by the devastating impact of the recent fires that have sadly taken away my cherished abode.
Rivers expressed deep appreciation for the brave firefighters and emergency responders, who selflessly put their lives on the line, working tirelessly to safeguard our neighborhoods and rescue people in need.
In approximately four years prior, or around 2021, Melissa acquired a house in Pacific Palisades at a cost of about $7.7 million, according to Architectural Digest.
The two-story house had consisted of five bedrooms as well as five and a half baths.
In the backyard was a swimming pool, spa area and also an outdoor fireplace.
Previously, Melissa was the owner of a standalone property located in the Palisades. She disposed of this property back in 2019 at an approximate value of $5.2 million.

Apart from John Goodman and Anthony Hopkins, actors Miles Teller and his spouse Keleigh experienced a similar loss, as they too lost their properties.
Overall, across many fires, approximately 9,000 structures have been reported as either damaged or demolished. At present, about 130,000 residents remain under evacuation notices.
Throughout numerous fires, it’s estimated that around 9,000 buildings have suffered damage or been destroyed. Currently, over 130,000 people are under evacuation orders as a result.
