Melissa Leong opens up about ‘dark’ memoir after sparking concern on social media: ‘It was a difficult process’

Melissa Leong shared insights into her forthcoming memoir, disclosing that penning it proved to be a challenging experience.

The former MasterChef Australia judge, 43, is set to release her book, Guts, on September 30.

In an interview with the Herald Sun before its release, Melissa confessed that her novel explores some troubling or complex themes.

She informed the publication that there are surprising developments and hidden truths, which I’ve never disclosed openly, that are included in what is written.

A portion of it carries a somewhat ominous tone and seems quite pertinent to current global events, particularly for women.

Melissa mentioned that although composing her memoir was challenging, she anticipated it would serve as a therapeutic experience for her too.

She found that experience extremely challenging, and discussing it publicly while promoting her book will likely be equally tough, she mentioned.

I’m dedicated to finding a path towards recovery, as I believe this process can benefit the general public. Moreover, I genuinely hope that it can bring some relief to my own situation too.

Following the emotional post from Melissa, where she uploaded a photo of herself crying in her car onto social media platforms this week, a wave of worry swept through her followers.

On Thursday, she shared a worrying picture on social media that showed her appearing dejected while taking a rest inside her car.

She shared with her followers that she felt somewhat melancholic following the mentally demanding job of narrating the audiobook for her upcoming memoir.

Today proved particularly challenging for Melissa. She embarked on narrating her memoir’s audiobook, a task she recognized could involve expressing some of her deepest thoughts and experiences aloud to unfamiliar listeners for the first time.

Though we haven’t reached that point yet in our conversation, I feel compelled to extend my love to anyone who’s currently going through tough times. Remember, you’re never alone in your struggles, and knowing this gives me comfort too.

She ended on a more hopeful note and revealed she was excited to be telling her story.

She mentioned that she usually avoids sharing such unedited personal experiences, but today she wanted to commemorate a day when she took back control of her own narrative and identity.

Many of Melissa’s celebrity friends took to the comments section to offer words of support.

Adriana Glass, a publicist, penned down, ‘It’s not simple to share things like these, but thank you for doing so. I’m sending you plenty of affection.’

‘Deep breath… and say it proudly,’ added makeup artist Shella Martin.

Melissa’s forthcoming memoir can now be pre-ordered, offering readers an exclusive look into aspects of her life not previously disclosed.

For three years, this well-known food critic held a judging position on Channel Ten’s cooking contest. However, they decided to part ways with the channel last year during a significant change in hosting roles.

Since then, she has taken on the role of judge for the spin-off series Dessert Masters. However, persistent whispers suggest she might be planning a comeback to MasterChef.

On Instagram, Melissa inquired from her followers about topics they’d be interested in for her upcoming book, resulting in a variety of suggestions.

A curious admirer inquired whether Melissa intended to share any backstage anecdotes from MasterChef, to which she affirmed that she would indeed do so.

‘Oh there are a bunch, don’t you worry,’ she teased in a cryptic reply.

Apart from disclosing the topics she’d delve into during her discourse, which encompass various aspects of her personal life and professional journey, she casually mentioned her hidden fondness for UFC. Each chapter in her book will additionally contain a unique culinary recipe.

Instead, Melissa asked followers to respect her boundaries regarding certain parts of her life she’s chosen not to discuss openly, suggesting that these topics might not be covered in her upcoming book.
