Melissa Joan Hart faced some backlash from fans after posting what they considered an insensitive tribute to her show, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, but she seemed to brush it off while enjoying a day at the beach on Monday.
The 49-year-old actress, best known for her role as a teenage witch in a popular TV show that aired from 1996 to 2003, recently displayed her fit physique while wearing a small blue bikini.
Okay, let me tell you, Melissa absolutely killed it with her look! She was rocking a super cute two-piece – a strapless top, of course – and paired it with a flowy cover-up skirt cinched at her waist. It was a really flattering and effortlessly chic vibe.
The blonde woman shared a new profile picture on social media, showing her posing on the beach. She captioned the sunny photo with ‘#beachvibes’.
Melissa recently posted a funny video referencing a character she played on TV. However, some viewers were upset when she forcefully kicked a stuffed animal of the character’s talking cat.
The clip began with her sitting on a chair with a toy feline on her lap.
In a video, Hart responded to the question of whether she prefers cats by playfully tossing one into the air and kicking it out of frame, as she explained in an on-screen message.
The video then cut to her sweetly petting a real dog, who sat next to her.
She jokingly assured everyone that no Salem cats were hurt while making the video. She also added, as an afterthought, that while she enjoys cats, she prefers dogs!
Many cat owners and animal lovers found this joke distasteful. One user commented, ‘I enjoy dark humor, but this goes too far.’
‘That was heartbreaking. No violence against any kind of animal!’ quipped another.
Another person commented that the joke was in poor taste, saying it promoted violence towards animals and was upsetting to see.
“Ouch, that was unkind. You don’t have to pick sides – it’s perfectly okay to love both cats and dogs! It’s frustrating how some dog lovers always seem to criticize cats and even brag about it,” someone commented.
‘Unfollowing. This broke my heart I loved Melissa,’ read a fifth comment.
‘This isn’t your best work, still a fan but this was hard to watch,’ announced a different user.
That was completely uncalled for. Sadly, black cats are often mistreated, and this act was cruel and insensitive, as someone else pointed out.
‘I love you, but it’s not funny Melissa. It’s disgusting,’ wrote someone else.
Melissa became well-known at age 15 when she starred as Clarissa Darling in the popular Nickelodeon teen comedy, Clarissa Explains It All, which aired in the 1990s.
