Melanie Sykes reveals she is suffering from ‘Post-Traumatic Growth’ and has ‘transcended trauma’ in latest health update amid battle with autoimmune condition that left her ‘two-thirds bald’

Hey everyone, I wanted to share something personal. I’ve been navigating a really interesting journey with my health lately, and I’ve realized I’m experiencing what’s called ‘Post-Traumatic Growth.’ It’s not about going back to how things were, but actually growing and finding positive changes because of challenges I’ve faced. It feels really good to recognize that, and I wanted to share a little bit of positivity!

The 55-year-old former TV presenter shared an update with her followers on Instagram, saying she’s feeling much better emotionally and physically after overcoming past trauma. She’s been dealing with an autoimmune condition that has caused significant inflammation and hair loss – she’s lost about two-thirds of her hair.

Post-Traumatic Growth refers to the positive changes people can experience after facing a difficult or traumatic event. It’s about growing and finding strength in the aftermath of hardship.

She explained that even very hard times eventually come to an end, and that it’s possible to grow from trauma – a concept known as post-traumatic growth. She emphasized that you can experience growth even while still dealing with the effects of PTSD.

I feel like I can hold two opposing viewpoints because people are complex and can experience a range of emotions simultaneously. It’s about acknowledging both my happiness and sadness, allowing myself to feel and work through difficult experiences, and then continuing to move forward.

I believe people can overcome any trauma and experience real change, and I’m living proof of that.

She wrote in the post’s caption: ‘Hi everyone, sending good energy today! Lots of love, Melanie.’

The actress, known for appearing in the popular Boddingtons Bitter commercials in the mid-1990s, first discussed her hair loss in April, sharing a side view of her head to highlight a bald patch.

She said the photo was taken whilst she was in London, investigating some health issues.

The former TV star shared that she’s been dealing with hair loss and heart problems as a result of recent traumatic experiences, including PTSD, shock, and what she describes as mistreatment and medical negligence.

Last week, Melanie reassured her fans about her health, sharing a detailed update on Instagram. She emphasized that she’s learned to prioritize self-care and is currently focused on healing.

She expressed feeling grateful for life, emphasizing the importance of being present in the moment and free from fear. She repeated that there was truly nothing to be afraid of.

The more I trust in things working out, knowing that my current experience proves they are good and will continue to improve, the better I feel.

Melanie expressed her preference not to constantly discuss her health, stating, ‘Let’s not focus on that right now.’

She explained she wasn’t trying to keep it a secret, but would prefer to talk about other things. She feels she’s already discussed it enough and is focusing on getting better.

Focus on your own well-being, and by that, I mean nurture your inner self – your body, mind, and creativity.

I’m okay on my own. I’ve always been able to rely on myself, and I’ve become much better at self-care over the past two years.

In a recent Instagram post, Melanie shared that she’s also dealing with significant inflammation throughout her body.

Melanie shared on social media that she’s been focusing on her spirituality and staying positive, and she suggested others try meditation. She posted while bundled up in warm clothes – a jumper, jacket, scarf, and hat.

As you’re aware, I haven’t been feeling well for a while now. I’ve been dealing with an autoimmune condition all year, which is causing hair loss and ongoing inflammation. I’m focusing on getting better.

I recently completed most of a meditation teacher training course. I wasn’t able to finish the final two days due to illness. While I don’t plan on becoming a teacher, I found the training valuable.

‘Mostly I’ve been living a very, very very spiritual existence.’

She shared the video with a message saying she’s finally back to creating content on YouTube after taking time to learn, reflect, and focus on her well-being – a process she says is still continuing. She ended with a message of love for her followers.
