Melanie Sykes Hires Security After Harassment: ‘I Can’t Go Out Alone as a Single Woman’

Melanie Sykes has disclosed her intentions to employ a security team, as she’s felt unsafe on her individual excursions.

54-year-old television personality recently discussed the increased harassment she’s faced from strangers on her YouTube channel, expressing a greater need for security following years of such incidents. She notes that this problem has worsened since she became single.

The mother of two, who has stepped away from her broadcast work primarily in recent times, shared with her online audience: “I prefer to hire someone for support… It’s more cost-effective than many partners I’ve had before.

On her YouTube channel, Melanie expressed that she prioritizes her privacy, stating, “Due to recent circumstances, I’ve come to understand that having a security team accompanies me when I go out is necessary for my personal safety.

When you’re married or accompanied by a man in public, people tend not to pry and ask inappropriate questions. Instead, they engage with the man, which has happened to me countless times even when I was with a male friend, and the focus of conversation shifted towards them.

It’s challenging for me, being a single woman, to embark on lengthy solo walks with my dog due to safety concerns. It’s not something I feel comfortable doing.

‘The possibility of being identified, followed by unwanted encounters with people I prefer not to engage with, can lead to unpleasant situations that escalate quickly. These interactions often cause the other person to become angry, putting me in potential danger since I’ve violated their personal space.’

As a respectful follower, when I find myself in a situation where I have to communicate my disinterest in conversation, I express this by saying something like, “I truly prefer not to converse with you at the moment.” This can sometimes lead to feelings of annoyance or discomfort, and for my safety and well-being, I’m considering the need for additional security. I’m also pondering on the best approach to ensure this aspect is effectively addressed.

As Mel, a mother to Roman, age 23, and Valentino, 21, sons from my previous union with Daniel Caltagirone, I am contentedly living the single life and not actively seeking out a new romantic partnership.

She mentioned: “Some individuals have significant others. In my case, I neither possess nor desire one. My life is already brimming with fulfillment, and it would take an exceptionally remarkable person to catch my attention.

‘I don’t consider this as a requirement or top concern, so I prefer to hire someone who can support me and take care of negotiations on my behalf, without needing to bargain for their services myself.’

‘It’s cheaper than most partners I’ve had. It’s a necessity, it really is.’

In 2022 Mel ended her romance with gondolier Riccardo Simionato, who was 22 while she was 50.

Previously, she was wedded to a man named Jack Cockings, who was 16 years his senior, and she also had a relationship with the young German golfer, Martin Kaymer, who was 14 years younger than her.

This celebrity became particularly renowned for his role in the Boddingtons advertisements during the 1990s, as well as co-hosting the show “Today with Des and Mel” in the early 2000s.

From 2011 to 2014, Melanie co-hosted the ITV show “Let’s Do Lunch” with Gino D’Acampo. However, she decided to retire from television altogether in 2021.

Last month Mel blasted her former co-host Gino as she admitted ‘the industry has created monsters’.

Previously, Melanie, who used to work alongside Gino on television, called upon the network executives to acknowledge their role and address the alleged misogyny within their talent pool, following a string of accusations concerning inappropriate behavior by the chef.

On her YouTube channel, a mother of two looked back at her 24-year career in TV and stated, “Shows like Celebrity Juice were horrific, the television industry breeds monstrosities.

I recall a time when Gino mentioned to me that he could simply walk up to those in authority, knock on their door, and enter without needing a formal meeting.

‘He was quite pleased with himself that he could do that.

For twenty-four years, it seemed as though I found myself in the midst of a relentless battlefield within that particular industry. Regardless of its questionable alignment with my personal values, I fought tirelessly.

If you find yourself constantly tidying up after others, then perhaps it would be best to focus on cleaning your own home from scratch. That’s just my two cents.

At the moment, there are multiple accusations against Gino, claiming he exhibited behavior that was both uncomfortable and threatening, which reportedly occurred for a period of 12 years.
