Melania Trump’s Controversial Documentary’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Unveiled

Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States, recently released a new documentary. Unlike many films today, it wasn’t made available on streaming services and instead premiered in movie theaters.

The latest release had a large budget and received support from President Donald Trump. However, after it came out on January 30th, critics and audiences sharply disagreed about its quality, as reflected in its Rotten Tomatoes score.

The documentary started with a very poor reception from critics, receiving only an 8% score on Rotten Tomatoes. It actually fell further, dropping to 6% after 16 reviews. Despite the critical backlash, viewers loved the film, giving it a nearly perfect audience score.

In a review for Decider, Jesse Hassenger explained that the film misinterprets its subject’s celebrity as genuine talent, and equates a comfortable lifestyle with actual achievement. This, Hassenger argues, led the filmmaker to create a disjointed and uninspired work.

In a critical review, Robert Hutton of The Critics highlighted that the importance of the film about Melania isn’t necessarily what’s in the film, but the fact that it was made at all. He suggested it could potentially be used as evidence in an impeachment proceeding and, at the very least, represents a troubling sign of the deterioration of public life in America.

In a review for The Hollywood Reporter, Frank Scheck described the film about Melania Trump as excessively flattering, stating it goes so far beyond simple praise that it feels almost un-American not to love it. He suggested even calling it a ‘hagiography’ – a biography that idealizes its subject – would be too generous.

The London Evening Standard offered the only positive review, noting that if you approach the film as Melania Trump’s personal presentation of herself, it becomes clear she wants to show a warmer, more human side beneath her often-icy public image.

A user on X (formerly Twitter), who isn’t a professional Rotten Tomatoes critic, recently shared their enthusiastic review of the movie MELANIA. They saw it for the second time and said both they and the audience loved it, calling it “A MUST SEE!”

In another tweet, Trump urged people to see the movie Melania, calling it a “MUST WATCH” and saying tickets were selling quickly.

Audiences Hyped Melania Despite the Critics’ Score

It’s common for movie and TV critics to have different opinions than viewers. Sometimes critics love something the audience dislikes, and other times it’s the opposite. A recent example is Melania, which critics panned but audiences overwhelmingly enjoyed.

The new documentary is receiving largely positive feedback. One viewer called it a “fantastic film,” noting that their theater was packed and the audience gave it a standing ovation. The reviewer also praised Melania, calling her a gracious and wonderful First Lady, and described the documentary as a well-made and highly recommended watch.

I’ve been reading the reviews, and so many people feel the same way I do! It’s an incredible film that really lets you understand her life and who she is as a person. One reviewer said it beautifully – you get a glimpse into the life of our First Lady and what truly matters to her. It’s so inspiring! People are laughing, crying, and walking away with a newfound respect for her and her family. I highly recommend it to everyone!

Even though critics didn’t like it, the documentary had a surprisingly strong opening weekend, earning $8.1 million – the most for any documentary in the last decade. However, because it cost $75 million to make, the film needs to earn $150 million overall to become profitable.

The documentary Melania has been released worldwide, but early sales in the United Kingdom suggest it’s having trouble attracting large audiences. Despite receiving perfect scores from viewers, ticket sales are very low, raising concerns about whether the film will be financially successful.

Melania is currently playing in theaters.
