Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross have ended their relationship after nine years together.
The 69-year-old actor and director and the 35-year-old screenwriter split up around a year ago, but they’re committed to raising their 8-year-old son, Lars, together.
The former couple announced their separation, saying while they’re sad to be ending their marriage, they are grateful for their son and committed to co-parenting him with love and dedication.
Gibson and Ross started dating in 2014 after being introduced by friends. Three years later, they had a son, Lars, shortly before Gibson was nominated for a Best Director Oscar for the film Hacksaw Ridge.
Gibson shared that being a new father made awards season even more special and meaningful for him.
He shared in a statement that there’s nothing more thrilling than hearing the nominations revealed while cradling his new son.
