Phoenix Brown, Mel B’s daughter, recently shared that her mother once told her she wouldn’t achieve the same level of fame, stating, ‘I’m the famous one and you’re not.’ Phoenix explained she was determined not to live in her mother’s shadow.
The 26-year-old daughter of Spice Girl Mel B recently told The Daily Mail that she soon understood she needed to forge her own identity, especially given discussions about her privileged background.
She openly acknowledged the term ‘nepo baby’ and even made a Channel 4 documentary, ‘Born in the Limelight – Nepo Babies: Untold,’ last year, where she examined the benefits and difficulties of growing up as the child of a famous person.
The star now does DJ work and exhibits her art in London as she makes a career for herself.
In a recent interview, she shared that she’s on a path of self-discovery, exploring her identity, preferences, and future goals. She acknowledged it involves many questions, but she’s embracing the process of finding the answers and enjoying the ride.
She credits her mother for teaching her to step out of the shadow of fame.

Phoenix revealed: ‘My mum kind of let me know that ‘I’m the famous one and you’re not.’
That experience quickly helped me understand I needed to discover my own identity and stop living in someone else’s shadow. It’s been a real journey of self-discovery.
Phoenix understands that her mother’s success with the Spice Girls is the foundation of her own public recognition, and she knows this leads people to call her a ‘nepo baby’.
She directly addressed the topic in her Channel 4 documentary, *Born in the Limelight – Nepo Babies: Untold*.
She said of the show: ‘I was so nervous to do it just because it was such a taboo subject.
I figured there were two possible reactions: people could really dislike it and dismiss it, or they could actually listen and think about how it applies to their own lives, not just to celebrities. This issue is widespread and affects everyone.
And as for the ‘nepo baby’ tag?
Look, I get it – people are talking about my background. And honestly, I’m not going to pretend otherwise. Yes, I come from a family with connections – I’m a ‘nepo baby,’ and if that’s what you want to call me, fine. But at the end of the day, my name is Phoenix, and I’m here because of who *I* am, not just who my parents are. It is what it is, and I’m owning it.
Phoenix is set to walk the runway at London Fashion Week this week, as she’s partnering with popular streetwear and travel bag brand, Sprayground.

She’s making her runway debut this Thursday at the Freemasons’ Hall, walking in the brand’s first-ever show in the UK.
Phoenix quipped that she’s not much of a walker, usually only going from her bedroom to the kitchen. She added with a laugh that this event would be a completely new experience for her.
This show is a significant achievement for Sprayground, the New York-based brand created 15 years ago by David Ben David. It was produced by Sandflower Dyson, who leads the brand’s content creation.
I’m so excited for the new collection! It’s going to feature 47 really eye-catching outfits, and they’ve thought of everything – amazing accessories, seriously cool luggage, and all the everyday clothes you could want. It’s totally gender-fluid, which I love, and I can’t wait to see it all!
Sprayground backpacks have gained popularity with celebrities like Beyoncé and 50 Cent, both of whom have been seen sporting the brand’s designs.
‘I feel blessed for the opportunity,’ Ben David told The Daily Mail.
We’ve participated in New York and Milan Fashion Weeks, and the British Fashion Council then invited us to showcase our work at London Fashion Week.
We’re thrilled to be involved, and the moment felt perfect for a large-scale project. Our brand is new to the UK, and we’ve just started selling in prestigious stores like Harrods, Harvey Nichols, and Selfridges.
London and New York share a unique connection. The people and fashion in both cities are so alike that when I walk around, I often feel disoriented, wondering if I’m in New York’s Soho or London’s Soho.
During the interview, Phoenix also talked about her mother, Mel B’s, recent wedding to Rory McPhee in Morocco. She expressed how happy she was to see her mother find lasting love.
The 50-year-old singer and her 37-year-old hairdresser wife got married in a moving outdoor ceremony in Marrakesh last month. This followed an initial wedding celebration at St Paul’s Cathedral in London just weeks earlier.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always fascinated by family dynamics, and Phoenix recently shared a beautiful story about her mum. She explained how she gently encouraged her mum to have another celebration – a second ceremony, if you will – and gave us a peek behind the scenes of how the whole day went down. It’s lovely to see such a supportive relationship and a desire to create even more special memories!
She explained that her family always believes in fully committing to things. As she put it, ‘If you’re going to do something, you might as well go all out and do it again – bigger and better!’
Mel B has been married twice before – once to Jimmy Gulzar, the father of her daughter Phoenix, and later to Stephen Belafonte, whom she has accused of abuse. She’s hoping her third marriage will be successful.

After her marriage ended, Mel B moved her family back to the UK. She and her husband, Phoenix, now work as ambassadors for Women’s Aid, an organization that helps women and children experiencing domestic abuse.
Phoenix, along with her sisters Angel Iris, 18, and Madison, 14, are now concentrating on recovery and building a positive future.
Gushing over Mel B’s nuptials, she said: ‘I’m happy to see her happy. It’s all I’ve ever wanted’.
She shared that her mother originally asked her to DJ at the event, but she ended up turning down the offer.
Phoenix remembered someone asking if he wanted to join the performance. He really enjoyed dancing with everyone, and the DJ was fantastic. He even made a few song requests, which they played, and overall it was a great experience.
She acknowledged the playlist featured some classic Spice Girls songs, explaining that it’s important to pay tribute to them.
I’m a huge Spice Girls fan – they mean the world to me, like family. I’ve always hoped they’d get back together, and it seems likely to happen eventually, though I’m not sure when.
She also mentioned that being raised by Mel B has been a positive influence, giving her the courage to explore new experiences.
Growing up with a mother known as Scary Spice definitely instilled confidence in me. I was raised in a powerful family of women, and from the very beginning, I was encouraged to be bold and take risks.
Following Mel B’s enthusiastic description of her second wedding to Rory as better than she’d hoped, she shared with HELLO! Magazine that both she and Rory cried tears of joy during the ceremony, which was attended by her Spice Girls bandmate Mel C.
Mel’s kids were all involved in the wedding celebrations. Phoenix walked her down the aisle, Angel was a groomsman with Rory, and Madison was a bridesmaid.
She shared that the day was incredibly meaningful and filled with love, surpassing everything they had hoped for. It meant a great deal to her.
Mel looked radiant in a breathtaking red gown by Justin Alexander. The sheer dress featured a thigh-high slit and was intricately hand-beaded with sparkling red crystals and bugle beads. It took six skilled artisans over 850 hours to create.
The dress came from Evelie Bridal in London, and Caroline Black provided it. It was paired with a dramatic cathedral veil with a Moroccan design, highlighted by red crystals.
Mel explained that she chose to wear a red dress as a tribute to the culture of Morocco.
She described wanting to appear as a vibrant, mermaid-like figure as the sun set – a passionate, red-haired creature adorned with ruby jewels, seeming to float and glide through the water.
‘Morocco has that very red va-va-voom – it’s passionate and spiritual.’
On the dance floor a little later, Mel B and Mel C spontaneously started singing the Spice Girls’ song “Holler.”
Sporty Spice couldn’t make it to the first wedding of her bandmate, which Emma Bunton attended, but she flew to Marrakech for the second ceremony to celebrate with her friend as she got married.
‘It was great to have my fellow northerner Mel C there,’ Mel said.
We had an amazing time and really let loose, especially when Holler started playing! We’ve known each other for years, and my family all adore her. Sharing that weekend with her and Chris was incredibly special.
Emma Bunton was the sole Spice Girl present at the London event. Mel C and Victoria Beckham promptly sent their regrets and shared supportive messages for Mel on social media.
Mel B, also known as Scary Spice, got married last month for the third time. She wed hairdresser Rory at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Although she was known for being adventurous when she was younger, her wedding was actually quite simple and relaxed, and most guests left around 7 p.m.

Following the grand wedding ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral, complete with a horse-drawn carriage, she celebrated with friends and family at a bar in The Shard, with the party expected to continue late into the night.
The wedding party reached the reception around 4:30 PM, but most of Mel’s guests had left by 7:00 PM. After a little over two hours of celebrating, many had already changed into comfortable clothes and started heading home.
The wedding guest list included several famous faces, such as Emma Bunton from the Spice Girls, and comedians Alan Carr, Katherine Ryan, and Tom Allen.
Following the ceremony, guests continued the celebration on a party bus stocked with drinks, heading to the luxurious Shangri-La hotel in The Shard.
