Meghan McCain Slams Carrie Coon: Liberal Actress Turned ‘Deviant’ on The White Lotus?
As a lifestyle advisor, I find myself compelled to address an escalating online disagreement between Meghan McCain and Carrie Coon, both renowned figures in their respective fields. While it’s disheartening to witness such a public spat, it serves as a reminder of the importance of civil discourse, especially when discussing politics.
Regardless of the actress’s seemingly diplomatic remarks, the conservative media figure continued to criticize her, even making another dig.
The controversy sparked after a widely shared clip from the popular series, where Leslie Bibb’s character, Kate, revealed to her longtime Democratic friends, played by Toni Collette (Laurie) and Michelle Monaghan (Jaclyn), that she supports MAGA.
As a devoted observer, I couldn’t help but find amusement in the unusual exchange between Coon and Monaghan, their humorous facial expressions unfolding like a comedic sketch as they absorbed the new information.
Coin admitted to the ongoing exchange with McCain that started after the show aired on Wednesday. She explained that she could see why someone like McCain might feel pleased by the segment focusing on a character backing the MAGA ideology.
Earlier this week, Coon expressed that it’s likely pleasing for individuals such as Meghan McCain and her circle to observe a conservative figure on TV, as he put it.
As an ardent fan, let me tell you, a recent comment hit a soft spot for me – igniting a passionate reaction from John McCain, who declared on Thursday: “You’re right Carrie, I am indeed ‘pleased’ to see that the conservative character portrayed on White Lotus embodies responsibility and strong family values, rather than being depicted as a silly caricature.
Instead of the liberal advocate you’re portraying, who is reportedly involved with hotel employees and allegedly exposing herself publicly.
This version maintains the core meaning while using more professional and respectful language to describe the situation.

In the series, Laurie, a modern attorney hailing from New York, embarks on a brief romantic liaison with a younger individual she encountered via a coworker at the vacation spot.
Following an evening filled with heavy drinking and lively festivities, Laurie exposed her chest to the gathering as they were all in the swimming pool.
The online feud between the two ladies started when Coon reposted something that McCain had shared on platform X, accompanied by a mysterious message aimed at her supporters.
McCain expressed that Trump’s speech to Congress in early March left her emotionally touched, as she penned down: ‘For the first time, I found myself tearing up during a State of the Union address.’
I appreciate you, President Trump. This moment is truly heartwarming, and anyone who has been affected by brain cancer can attest to its significance. She made this statement in reference to a touching incident where Devarjaye ‘DJ’ Daniel was appointed an honorary Secret Service agent.
McCain’s father, the late senator John McCain, tragically died from brain cancer in 2018.
A day later on March 5, Coon replied with a mysterious message, writing: ‘Who’s gonna tell her?’
It seemed that Coon was alluding to reductions in funding for cancer research, a topic later acknowledged by McCain in a later social media post.

However, two days after, McCain retaliated by posting a picture of Coon’s coworker Bibb, who portrays Trump-backing character Kate, with a smirk on his face.
As a devoted supporter, I found myself pondering whether I should continue tuning in tonight, as one of the show’s prominent figures chose to post disrespectful comments my way on Twitter.
In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter before the HBO series’ final episode this Sunday, I shared that I have friends with more traditional views who expressed appreciation for our dialogue, mentioning they didn’t feel it portrayed Kate in a negative or unfair light.
Bibb expressed awe at the Trump segment, commending showmaker Mike White for his remarkable knack to swiftly tap into the spirit of the times.
The scene was actually written in 2022 – long before Trump was reelected to the White House.
According to Bibb, the plan was to film the new season in 2023. However, a writers’ strike occurred, causing a delay. This hold-up led to worries among the cast and staff that the show might seem outdated when it eventually aired due to the passage of time.
Instead, White opted to minimize Trump’s dialogue, allowing less of it to remain in the final cut.
‘There was more to that conversation,’ Coon revealed.

To begin with, it was found out that Laurie’s child identifies as nonbinary, which has been a challenge for Laurie in dealing with her adolescent who prefers to be referred to using ‘they/them’ pronouns.
As a committed supporter, I found Donald Trump’s actions increasingly intolerable due to my personal connection – my daughter. At that time, neither Trump’s reelection nor the intensification of the conflict against the transgender community had occurred yet.
‘Mike felt that it was actually too political, or too far, or too distracting.’
In March of 2024, White initially found the scene fitting, but as the time for final edits approached, there was a noticeable change or evolution in the atmosphere, or simply put, a shift in vibes.
1. “While it wasn’t excessively extreme, I’d rather avoid drawing such attention. Discussing politics might overshadow the points I intend to make.”
2. “It wasn’t too far out there, but I prefer not to be in the spotlight like that. Politics could drown out the ideas I want to discuss.”
3. “I wouldn’t call it extreme, but I’d rather avoid the limelight. Discussing politics might eclipse the points I wish to make.”
4. “It wasn’t overly radical, but I prefer not to focus on that aspect. Politics could overshadow the ideas I want to convey.”
5. “It wasn’t extremely revolutionary, but I’d rather steer clear of that kind of attention. Politics might overpower the points I aim to make.”
Although McCain and Coon remain at odds, it was revealed this week that she has also voiced her displeasure over the Trump administration’s approach to cancer research.
In simpler terms, the budget agreement, recently approved by both the Senate and House of Representatives, and subsequently signed by the President, contains significant reductions in funding for cancer research – a cause that was close to the heart of the deceased Senator John McCain, who passed away from this disease.
McCain stated that the National Institutes of Health had attempted to manage her father’s terminal cancer, and they’ve created a highly targeted therapy for Glioblastoma, which significantly decreases tumor sizes. She described it as nothing less than astonishing.
Under the proposed spending bill, funding for ongoing cancer research could be jeopardized, since it aims to reduce funds allocated for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program. This program, in turn, supports numerous cancer research projects administered by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
On X Tuesday, Meghan McCain expressed, “Fellow Republicans – this is not right,” which she subsequently removed.
“I’m utterly devastated to learn that funding for brain cancer research has been entirely eliminated from the NIH,” she went on, pointing out that her father, along with millions of others, had received treatment for Glioblastoma and other brain cancers at this esteemed institution by remarkable doctors and nurses. Today, members of the brain cancer community are in deep mourning.
